Ted Cruz issued this statement on his Facebook today in defense of Mark Halperin for his apology over stereotypical Cuban questions he asked in an interview:
Mark Halperin is a serious and fair-minded journalist. Today he kindly issued an apology for some silly questions he…

Below is Mark Halperin’s apology:
We wanted to talk with Senator Cruz about his outreach to Latino voters the day after he spoke at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. My intent was to give the Senator a chance to speak further about his heritage and personal connections to the community through some casual questions. I rushed through the questions” and that was a mistake – it led to poor tone and timing. ! also understand why some felt the questions were inappropriate. As for asking Senator Cruz to welcome Senator Sanders to the race in Spanish” that was meant to be the type of light-hearted banter that he’s done with us before on the show. In no way was I asking Senator Cruz to ‘prove’ he was an ‘authentic’ Latino. I apologize to those that were offended” and to Senator Cruz. I promise that I will work to make the tone and questions better next time.

Good move. Everybody knows they were dumb questions and Cruz comes out and shows compassion for Halperin.
Technically a politically astute move but it would have been nice to see him just ignore the apology altogether and refuse any further interviews with him..
No, accept the apology and THEN refuse any more interviews. A much better approach.
Regardless of how good the rhetoric feels.

“In no way was I asking Senator Cruz to prove he was an authentic Latino”
The Hades you weren’t pal.
Cruz showed a lot of class in the interview, and in how he’s handled the so-called apology.
I’m betting Halperin will be a lot more fair handed next time.
I don’t disagree. But it would still be nice to simply start treating these evil people with 1-1 levels of respect. I don’t think he was ‘wrong’, and I’m sure he did what he did with a plan. But occasional red meat like that does the heart good.
This reporter won’t be allowed by management to go pit bull on him again, but their bench is deep for that job.
Choke on it Halperin.
Which is why I said it was technically a politically astute move.
Cruz proves how naive he is in political life.
Clearly, Cruz is not ready for the big leagues.
This was an opportunity to identify liberal hypocrisy and contrast this with their treatment of Obama.
But, instead, like most GOP, Cruz grabs his ankles and asks for more.
Cruz outclasses these hacks every time.
I’m cynical, so I doubt it.
Crying about the unfairness of it all will not get as many votes as a laid back approach and calling the questions silly.
I don’t see how he bent over.
Another Walker droid heard from. Doesn’t your buddy have some LEGALS to ban from Tammany Hall or something?
Were you nit the guy that just railed ‘intolerant’ conservatives on another thread?
Agreed, and Cruz calling the questions “silly” is another way of saying Halperin was unprofessional.
And I know why you really want a smackdown on some of these guys. LOL!

> No, accept the apology and THEN refuse any more interviews.
Yeah, just give the old “scheduling problems” excuse.

You're talking like it's a game -- or a war -- between two players, the candidate and the media.
But the point is to win votes from the public. A candidate doesn't need to be always on the attack against the media to do that. In fact, forever lashing out at the media may hurt a politician with the public.
If you know that the media treats Republicans and Democrats differently, you don't need a politician to point it out to you. Those who don't know, probably don't care, and aren't going to be swayed by another politician going after a reporter.
