Vatican blasts Muhammad cartoons as pouring ‘gasoline on the fire’

The Vatican’s semiofficial newspaper blasted a series of cartoons of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad as “blasphemous” but also condemned the “mad and bloodthirsty” extremists who opened fire at a Texas exhibit of the cartoons.

The front-page article in L’Osservatore Romano likened the exhibit in Garland, Texas, to pouring “gasoline on the fire” of religious sensitivities and was critical of its sponsors, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, and professional provocateur Pamela Geller.

Police on Sunday (May 3) shot and killed two gunmen who opened fire outside the exhibit that was designed to provoke Muslim sensitivities; the so-called Islamic State has since claimed responsibility for the attack that injured a security guard, and promised more to come.

*snip*

After the Charlie Hebdo attacks, Pope Francis condemned the idea of killing “in God’s name” but warned that “you cannot provoke, you cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others.”

as the Catholic Church in America or elsewhere isn’t even concerned about their having practicing homosexuals in the clergy...

How do you know that?

They did the same thing when the Islam maniacs were hunting Salman Rushdie over his book, `The Satanic Verses’: why, it had to be Rushdie’s fault! He brought this on himself.

They really are despicable. (The Vatican, that is, the gutless weasels.)

Pope Benny (”Violence is incompatible with” blah blah blah) sounds a lot like like Barry the other day “condemning” the attack by Mooslimes in Garland, TX: “Violence: bad.”

Maybe suggesting that taking them out with head shots was violence and ... ?
And these are the guardians at the gates of western civilization? Incredible.

Do you believe the pope's opinions on this topic (or any topic) to be "infallible"?

If not, why are you so incensed about it?

Those among us who don't credit the pope with any particular authority or "infallibility" might be well advised to look closer to home when seeking messes to clean up.

Mean-time, Frankie makes some comments I disagree with. How quickly 'we' forget that his immediate predecessor was widely condemned for being hateful and anti-islamic ... as demonstrated by some of the cartoons I linked.

Fascinating ...

Pope Benny (”Violence is incompatible with” blah blah blah)

You'd be well advised, IMHO, to reacquaint yourself with what what Benedict had to say, back then. Perhaps you've forgotten ... the mohammedans and the 'progressives' were screeching an freaking out over his comments for weeks ... and mohammedans in Africa went on at least one violent rampage against a convent ... all because he had the insufferable gall to suggest that the mohammedans' "convert or die" approach to the world was bad. To stretch his comments as a condemnation of self defense (as in Garland, TX) is not honest.

Voltaire sure hit it out of the park. This site proves it is not Catholics or Muslims. That leaves Protestants and Jews.

Catholic, Episcopal, it doesn't matter which churches...once they bring in the homosexual agenda and persons who either tolerate or encourage this as "normal" then time to move on....they have no standing.

Pope Francis is a 78 year old religious leader. He’s not going to declare war on Islam.

If one wants war, one must first find a warrior.

Any church , North Mountain, that allows for the gay agenda. Catholic, Episcapol, whatever...they’ve left the mark of the High Calling that is in Christ Jesus in that which has determined is marriage. Period.

Was chilling when the Pope said...: “Who am I to judge”. Which will be exactly what catholics will now say.
