Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake on Wednesday asked the U.S. Department of Justice to probe city police practices and said officers will have body cameras by 2016.
Rawlings-Blake, in a morning news conference, noted that complaints of police brutality have been down, and highlighted other improvements by the department.
"We have seen results from these efforts," she said. But she said more efforts must be made to build on reforms that have already been put into place.
"We have to get it right. Failure is not an option," she said. The mayor said the department of Justice will investigate what "systemic challenges exist in our department." At the end of the process, she said she will hold those accountable if changes are not made.

Amazing, the Mayor does not call in the State of Maryland as the next higher level of authority in a federal system, but instead goes to the Federal level where there is both the Chief Executive and AGUS are similarly pigmented!

Body cameras are gong to cost the taxpayers a fortune because of all the FOIA type requests for the video.
When LE body cams was brought up in the past, Mayor R-B expressed concern for residents’ privacy. She said at the time that officers would have to inform residents they were speaking with that the camera was “on” and turn it off if asked.

Admittedly, all I know about this mayor is what I have seen or read in the media over the last two weeks. Given that, what I see is someone in way over her head.
I think all body camera footage should be uploaded unedited to the net for all to see, in the interest of transparency.
I despise these platitude spouting, witless libs.
I know, yet they still claim racism. How is that? Always the victim.
The mayor needs to wear a body camera, too.
