STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Republican District Attorney Daniel Donovan has won Tuesday's special election and is going to be Staten Island's new congressman.
Donovan vied with Democratic Councilman Vincent Gentile and Green Party candidate James Lane for the seat.
The final tally for the election is not yet available, but the Donovan camp declared him the winner of the special election on Tuesday night. The DA celebrated with supporters at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bloomfield.

Good outcome.
I’m guessing that it will be almost impossible to manufacture enough votes to overcome that size of a lead.
BUT there can be a RE_COUNT.... and a RE_COUNT.... and a RE_COUNT.... and a RE_COUNT....And a RE_COUNT.... ETC...
GOOD results!!!
I don't think that you can get a recount when you lose by 19 points.
Why yes he was.
And he wins by 20 points.
Ha, I forgot this was this week. The rat had no chance from the start.
Suck it, Staten Island (and Brooklyn) rats!!
Donovan shouldn’t have that much trouble in 2016.
Got an email about his NY win, and this race coming up...
.....Now we have a new challenge: in just one week the next Special Election for Congress takes place in MS-01. Our candidate in that race is Conservative Republican Henry Ross.
FYI.
That is a damn crowded race!
This won’t be acknowledged by the Republicans but this was actually a poor showing. Dan is a great guy I know personally, but he was not able to excite anybody, (please save the protests about it being a “special election”). In 30 years of watching Staten island politics and being part of them myself I have NEVER seen a Republican get an equal number of votes on the North shore as from the South shore. People just don’t vote Republican on the North shore - so what happened? The South shore Republicans are tired of their party and just didn’t care. As I said the GOP won’t even acknowledge this a problem but it is. Look at this election as a kind of specialized poll. If this was a poll it would have a high enough universe to be very accurate and yield a very valuable message: YOUR BASE IS QUICKLY RUNNING OUT OF “GIVE A DAMN.”
Getting 59% in a special election was pretty-near spectacular, especially considering how the NY GOP has blown winnable races. Grimm, by comparison, got only 52% and just under 55% in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
If you’re saying Donovan did as well on the North shore as the South shore, I would surmise, if that’s true, that it was because North shore Blacks and Hispanics didn’t show up in this low-turnout special election.
