American Churches Who Oppose Same-Sex Marriage Will Lose Tax Exemption
Virtue Online ^ | May 2, 2105 | Timothy A. Pope

Posted on 05/02/2015 8:12:01 AM PDT by lqcincinnatus

The admission was made by Barack Hussein Obama's lawyer, the sitting Solicitor General of the United States, Donald Verrilli, Jr., on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, during questioning by Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Samuel Alito, Jr.

Solicitor General Verrilli, using a public office to defend same-sex marriage on behalf of the United States, was asked by Justice Alito if religious institutions could be at risk of losing their tax-exempt status due to their beliefs about Biblical marriage.

Verrilli's reply was, "It's certainly going to be an issue."

It would include conservative black churches that try to hold onto true biblical teachings. Liberal churches will stand and keep tax-exempt status and conservative churches will be sold to the highest liberal bidder to cover unpaid taxes. What a vile, vile plan the left has devised.

This is an easy one to address.Churches opposed to pervert “marriage” can officially adopt, and then publicly announce, that they will no longer perform any ceremony that any government entity/official could see as a legal “marriage”.They could announce that in future they will only bless unions recognized by their denomination and if that couple wants to be *legally* married they must visit a Justice of the Peace.

That’s not the deal, the deal is to apply extra taxes to churches for being “immoral” in the eyes of the government. Is it survivable? Without a doubt to me, it is.

It is not that they are looking for a tax break. But neither are they using the money for their own profit. Why should they pay taxes on it?

It is good to be noble and have pure motives, but don’t let that turn into being a doormat and having unrealistic expectations of people. Most are not rich. Their donation should be treated like other non-profit donations.

again, I have to agree. More often than not when you see "Non-Profit" what you are looking at is corruption at it's finest.

Why not give EVERYONE, a tax exempt status so everyone has the opportunity to accumulate wealth?

Yes we would still need to pay for essential government, like the military etc. but that could be done more as an "assessment" rather than a "penalty" for making a profit or earning income.

Taxes both up front and hidden are absolutely crushing the wealth accumulating potential of every American. The tax exempt status of churches make that all to obvious.

We can’t say we weren’t warned though, the whole warning of needing to be willing to lose something for the sake of worshipping God had a point, and this is one of them.

Your idea is good but make no mistake, they will find another way to crush them. The goal is to totally shut them down. That couldn’t be more clear.

Church property will be taxed at “best use” level, thus the chruch will pay the same property tax as if it were a 100 story office building or a sprawling shopping mall, etc. and be forced to sell.

You could look at it this way.

Back when Jesus was talking to the people of the land, He didn’t have a ‘church’ building, He walked and the crowds followed, so that being the case, then maybe the land could go back to the government, the ‘church’ buildings could be used to preform another task, and we can meet in our homes, or take a walk around a few blocks and listen to what the leader of what ever religion is talking about....and as far as taxing, if there are no ‘buildings’ or ‘land’ then what is there for taxing?

Just a thought.....

The Irony?

They are moving to a high marginal rate Flat Tax via potentially loosing these religious deduction(s) and loosing HealthCare deductibility via Obamacare ( yes many are paying with after tax Dollars for their healthcare ) and it is because of Control and their Social agenda vs a Constitutional Conservative Version of a Flat Tax, (aka what Ted Cruz is talking about) that would give us Liberty, not take it away, by getting Guberment the h&!! out of our lives!!!

It is a long story, how I met a principle of the original Hawaii-Gay-Marriage movement. I came away thinking they didn't need marriage, they needed a flat-tax. I'll save that one for later...

“Statesmen my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for Liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand. ... The only foundation of a free Constitution, is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People, in a great Measure, than they have it now, They may change their Rulers, and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty.” —John Adams

Churches provide a priceless service and the cost of government would go up up up without them. I am not saying all churches do what they are supposed to do. But the churches Obama is targeting are the very ones most likely doing what they should be doing.

You're right,it's obvious. But if my plan is adopted they won't be able to use *marriage* as their weapon.

Very sad to hear this because people who tithe are honoring God and shouldn’t be looking for a tax break. You are likely correct, though. Jesus did say that one cannot serve both God and money. Christians should consider that matter with God regardless of what the government says.

I agree with you 100%.

We’ve got to trust God. It is not always easy to tithe even with the way it is now but I know it’s God’s will. It will all work out well for the true followers of Christ.

said, "But don’t Muslims oppose gay marriage?"

no. there are no gays in Islam. Marriage isn't an issue.
They have special ceremonies for people that come out as gay. They all get together and thrown them off the roof then join their clubs with their head.

:: Does that include Black Churches? ::

Tom...Tom...Tom.

You know that means that ^only^ Trinity Church of Christ in Chicago’s South-side will retain their status. Oh, and maybe Calypso Louie’s Chicago congregation.

We’ll see.

I’ve attended more than a few Baptist Churches in my lifetime and don’t recall any of the pastors being chauffeur driven or living in mansions.
