NEW YORK (WABC) -- Some feel it is oppressive when police officers in New York arrest people for seemingly minor offenses like cycling on a sidewalk.
And although these types of arrests are down dramatically, there is a move in the City Council to decriminalize low-level offenses like littering, fare evasion, public drinking, public urination, cycling on a sidewalk and loitering after hours in a city park.
Supporters of the plan say they should be treated like parking violations, not crimes.
In Park Slope, just eight people were arrested for sidewalk cycling from 2008 to 2011, but there were more than 1,000 in the poorer neighborhood of Brownsville and more than 2,000 in Bedford-Stuyvesant in the same period.

isn’t that theft?
I guess it’s been too long. They are bringing the Dinkins era back to New York.
Guliani did the opposite and made the city livable.
And what is it with these people? From "giving those wish to destroy the room to do so" in Baltimore to "decriminalizing" crime in NYC?
Everything going according to plan, Mr. Alinsky?
"Long hot summer" nothing. It's going to be a long 1 year and 4 months.

Because getting drunk in public, pissing and crapping all over the place, and then passing out (loitering) is ok with these rats.
Who was it said — Don’t get caught with a dead girl, or live boy in bed?
Well, those are probably qualifications for office, now.
In Tampa, the police have been accused of targeting black neighborhoods for writing tickets to bicycle riders...
The difference in the numbers are quite stark...
I think, IMHO, that the bike riders are being targeting because they are running drugs or contraband...whereas in the "white" neighborhoods drugs are sold via vehicle...

Funny how serious crime plummeted in NYC shortly after Rudy started cracking down on squeegee men and loitering. And how it stayed down when Doomberg decided to adopt the same policy.
Anything short of murder of a dem should be OK.
Then when the prisons fill, OK that.
Time to watch “Fort Apache, the Bronx” again to get acclimated to the DeBlasio World Order.
I see no point in saving ANY dem run city.
I can't speak for other dem run cities, but New York doesn't need saving. We're doing just fine up here, thank you very much.
I wish you and yours the best.
I know that New Yorkers are a proud bunch, my mothers parents were born and raised in upstate New York and that pride never left them.
However, from where I sit, it looks like a lib mess.
LOL... I live near the coast in Washington state, it too is a lib mess. I would never lift a finger to save Seattle.
Cheers....
