The University of Maryland, Baltimore and numerous downtown businesses closed early Monday, citing concerns about potentially violent activity in the area.
Lexington Market, a city courthouse and businesses including T. Rowe Price and Venable LLP said police warned them of large gatherings and protests downtown.
According to widely circulated flier, a high school "purge" was to take place at 3 p.m., starting at Mondawmin and ending downtown.
Such memes have been known to circulate regularly, but today's has led to bolstered police presence around the city.
The flier includes an image of protesters smashing the windshield of a police car this past weekend after a march spurred by the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who died earlier this month after being arrested by city police, turned violent and destructive.
A post on the University of Maryland Baltimore's website said that the closure was prompted by a recommendation from city police. The campus will also stop shuttle service.

Actually, the origin of the word came from a movie in which “The Purge” is a governmentally approved set-aside window during which killing is allowed without consequence.
Pretty much sums up the present situation.

The elderly white victims here are doing their part to give the violent gangsters and looters of Baltimore more space.

I had forgotten that, which is the exact road the Baltimore mayor is taking that city down. Personally, I think it is long past time to break out the fire hoses if not something stronger. That always brings up images of the long past democratic south, but they gotta do what they gotta do.

“Purge” should be countered by “Target Practice.” Ought to work out nicely.
I guess Balmore is going to give up on the “Charm City” thing.
A Model Proposal”:
The school should automatically award bachelors degrees in “Critical Race Theory” to all minority students who participate in the looting and destruction.
That way, the new baccalaureates can be eliminated from the campus in just a few short months, and they can have a degree on their resumes when they go looking for jobs.
Pretty soon, no employer will accept a new hire with a B.A. in “Critical Race Theory” from any school, with the result that colleges offering degrees in this subject will be unable to attract students and will have to close, which is the best outcome.
