AND NOW... amidst billowing clouds of fragrant, aromatic first- and second-hand premium cigar smoke... it is time for... that harmless, lovable little fuzz ball, the highly-trained broadcast specialist, having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have, from behind the golden EIB microphone, firmly ensconced in the prestigious Attila-The-Hun chair at the Limbaugh Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies, serving humanity simply by showing up, and he’s not retiring until every American agrees with him - do NOT doubt him - with shrieks of joy at the mere mention of his name (that’s Rush, for those in Rio Linda),the Mandarin of Talk Radio, with talent on loan from G-d, at the cutting-edge of societal evolution, with half his brain tied behind his back — just to make it fair, the all-knowing, all-caring, all-sensing, all-feeling, all-concerned Maha-Rushie! America’s anchorman, truth detector, and doctor of democracy. A real man, a living legend, a way of life. Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Operation Chaos. Chief Waga-Waga El Rushbo of the El Conservo Tribe. Chief of the Patriotism Police. Leader of the Conservative Movement. A Weapon of Mass Instruction. El Rushbo (a little Spanish lingo, there). He is the man who is running America (you know it and I know it). He knows the Democrats like every square inch of his glorious naked body. He is ready to do what he was born to do — host. Get ready to what you were born to do — listen. And post your comments on the Rush Limbaugh LIVE Radio Thread.

The food companies probably over estimate the dates to avoid lawsuits and prosecution by the government.

It seems the Red Sox go through cycles where one year there really bad and the next year they win the world series.

I had a friend who did that and his wife was even worse. They should have lived on a farm if they wanted *fresh*.

I didn’t mean canned goods. Those usually last a long time, except some things with lots of sugar. The sugar, if the whole product is not pastuerized, can grow mold and turn to alohol with mold.
But, canned peaches seem to go on for years.

There isn’t much to avoid from lawsuits on canned food, because canned food is always safe to eat, as long as the can is intact.

What is inside of the can is sterile, the ‘best by’ date is just a guaranteed date that the product will remain perfect, and is more likely meant to generate people throwing it away and buying more.

Some things do better than others, for example I recommend using canned pasta dishes like ravioli and chicken noodle soup within a year or two of the date, because the pasta doesn’t taste as good after a few years, but canned chili, tuna, spam, corn, peas, sardines, corned beef, mixed vegetables, etc, last for years and years past the dates.

Here’s some recent MREs. I buy Canned Bacon (Yoders) from them, and it’s great.

The candy seemed old when I was given MREs in the military. All seems the same. Of the candy were fresh, I would think something was wrong.

The FDA is full of corrupt officials who would fit right in the Chinese bureaucracy.

What canned goods grow mold, and how?

You are one of those internet people who seems to get all of the unusual examples.

I used to eat MREs in the military also, why would fresh MREs have stale expired foods in them?

Give me Ted Cruz! He’ll cut the staff at the EPA, FDA and USDA to 10 people each.

I’m not a fan of canned peaches but most people are, that made me king of the C-ration trades in the Army

I once ate some home-jarred pasta sauce (with meat) that had been in my fridge for over a year (I know—sounds yukkie) and lived to tell the tale.

It’s been a long time since I had an old can of anything. Living in poverty for3 years, then eating fresh with my family for 6 months has taught me to live modestly.

I buy fresh avocados weekly. My fruits and veges are all farm fresh. I have two cans of spaghettios for days I don’t feel like cooking when I get home.

I have gotten away from processed foods except the week’s worth of MREs in my bugout bag.

My only bread is tortillas because they last longer than bread and I rarely use them.

If they’re dented/creased and metal is compromised, they can mold when bacteria invades. Usually, they have a ‘botulism bulge’ in the metal, and ‘distinct aroma’/mold layer when opened.

Interesting, but judging from you less than honest looking posts, not unexpected.
