NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – After concerns about Listeria contamination, Blue Bell Ice Cream has voluntarily recalled ALL of its products currently on the market. The recall includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks made at all of its facilities.

A press release from the Brenham, Texas-based company say the products “have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

In the statement Blue Bell CEO and president Paul Kruse said, “We’re committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe.”

Probably sabotage. Somebody just couldn’t stand a little Texas creamery making. The best ice cream in the world.

It’s possible, but it’s also not unusual to find it in manufacturing plants these days. The FDA has a detailed guide for dealing with it here:

I am not sure if they were empty or not. It was a report I heard on the radio outside of Houston.

The problem is most likely contaminated eggs.

That occurred to me as well when I read it was found in the "Cookie Dough" variety. I wonder if this is like a raw cookie dough add-in, as the name implies?

Sorry Braum's is ice milk too, not ice cream.

INGREDIENTS: Fresh Grade 'A' whole milk, sugar, cream, corn syrup, stabilizer blend (monoglycerides, cellulose gel, cellulose gum, carrageenan), natural vanilla, vanilla bean seeds.

I wholeheartedly agree! "Pecan Pralines and Cream" is by far the best and my favorite, too. ☺

I can’t believe this, it’s very cheap for the amount you get! And all those flavours!!!
I’m a semi-healthy 45 years old guy, can I still finish my 2 buckets?

I said in my post that its growth is enhanced by cold temperatures and that is absolutely true! I am a former Medical Technologist and have been teaching Clinical Microbiology to Medical Laboratory Technicians for over 30 years. The "cold enrichment" technique was used in the past to encourage the growth of the organism. The placenta or other tissues from babies who were stillborn due to transmission of the organism from mother to child were placed in the refrigerator at four degrees for several weeks to try to recover the organism.

It does grow well at 37 degrees. I keep a culture in my lab for my students and I sub it every week. It will grow well overnight in a 37 degree incubator on Sheep Blood Agar. It does grow much more slowly in the cold, but the point of my post is that any other bacteria I can think of (except maybe Yersinea) would not be able to multiply enough at such cold temperatures to cause an infection, whereas Listeria is the most common cause of food infections in which refrigerated or frozen food is the source.

If one has a package of Blue Bell, and eats from it, and nothing happens adversely, can he be confident in eating the remainder of the ice cream?

Without Whataburger and Bluebell, Texas wouldn’t be Texas anymore. :(

I’m eating my Blue Bell; don’t believe all the hype. Will I get sick on a sixth serving coming up when the first five didn’t hurt me?

I truly believe this was sabotage-—probably some gay guys who work for Ben and Jerry’s.
