ping
Leave him there. He is a big part of historical California and why not.
Sally Ride? Come on..., I have nothing against her but really?
Here’s MY unscientific poll question: Should the Los Angeles Times give up its pretense of meaningful journalism and simply cease operations?
a. Yes
b. Hell, yes
Have we freeped the LA-LA Times too much? LOL.
FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. (multiple votes using multiple internetz devices are allowed!) And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
Check the article. This is just an innocuous poll.
The California State Senate has already approved a bill to replace Serra with the late astronaut and LGBT icon Sally Ride.
The bill moves on to the Assembly where the Democrats outnumber the Republicans 52 - 28 (65% - 35%).
Freep this poll for REAL history.
Is this true?
Verification?
I voted for Johnny Carson because California has become a joke.
[O]n Monday, a divided California Senate approved a bill by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to replace Serra with a statue of the late astronaut Sally Ride, a native Californian and the first American woman in space. That measure has yet to be considered in the state Assembly. Also see post 6. Barring unforeseen circumstances, it's pretty much a done deal.
OH HELL NO if they do how about Ronald Reagan he was governor of my state RIGHT LOL!
Keep Father Serra that dude is FATHER OF founding of Cali
I shouldn’t have inserted the “LGBT icon” crack. Ride’s accomplishments stand on their own.
Reagan’s statue has been there since 2009.
I would vote for Ronald Reagan too.
But why take away the history of soon to be St. Junipero Serra?
Are they racist?
See post 15.
Are they racist?
No. Just PC.
IIRC, Ride was a lesbian, so in Calif that would make sense.
They are actually debating whether the natives that JS worked with QOL was better off or worse off.
Better - literacy, religion, and standard of living
Worse - 90% death rate from measles and other diseases, which would be inevitable sooner or later
Not sure why this is controversial. Plus JS built 30 missions. What did Sally Ride do?
