fter five years and more than 50 votes in Congress, the Republican campaign to repeal the Affordable Care Act is essentially over.
GOP congressional leaders, unable to roll back the law while President Obama remains in office and unwilling to again threaten a government shutdown to pressure him, are focused on other issues, including trade and tax reform.
Less noted, senior Republican lawmakers have quietly incorporated many of the law's key protections into their own proposals, including guaranteeing coverage and providing government assistance to help consumers purchase insurance.
And although the law remains very unpopular with GOP voters, more than 20 million Americans now depend on it for health benefits, making even some of the most conservative Republicans loath to cut off coverage.
At the same time, the presumed Republican presidential front-runner, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has shown little enthusiasm for a new healthcare fight. Last year, he even criticized the repeal effort.
Republicans who still demand a repeal, including Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, appear to be long shots for the presidential nomination.

Immigration and Obamacare have now moved to the front as the #1 and #2 issue of conservatives.
Immigration is the easy issue because the laws are already place. They just need to be enforced.
As for Obamacare. Any Republican, like Jeb Bush, that's against the repeal of Obamacare. Will never get my vote.
The time is ripe for a third party to take over. The Republicans at the national level for the most part, guys like Boehner, McConnell and Bush, are basically Democrats with "R"s by their name. The fact they get so much support within the Republican is frightening.

This illustrates how liberals work. Get people, millions, reliant and dependent on a government program. Making it harder to repeal and keeping democrats in office by threatening those who have come to rely on it that they will lose what little they got if it gets repealed.
If obamacare does get repealed, those millions will not suffer. They will simply find health benefits somewhere else.
Most republicans lost interest in killing Obamacare one nanosecond after the polls closed November 4, 2014.

I don’t really associate ted with the GOP, even though I guess I should, but he seems cut from a completely different cloth than all the rest.
Regarding the first prong, even after three election cycles, low-information voters have been slow to wise up to lawless Obama’s criminal arrogance and have failed to elect the required 2/3 conservative Senate majority necessary to remove a House-impeached Obama from office.
On the other hand, if the Senate was still controlled uniquely by state lawmakers as the Founding States had intended, the state legislatures would probably have elected the 2/3 Senate majority necessary to remove Obama from office by this time.
Regarding the second 17th Amendment-related prong, please consider this. A state legislature-controlled Senate would probably have never passed the bill that established unconstitutional Obamacare in the first place. This is because the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for intrastate healthcare purposes.
”State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress. [emphases added]” —Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
The problem with the 17th Amendment is that low-information citizens go home after voting for their favorite federal senators and watch football, oblivious to the previously mentioned Senate-related problems.
The 17th Amendment needs to disappear.
