Support a Convention of States to end the tyranny of the federal government

Are you aware of the grave and serious problem that is threatening your liberty and the security of the United States? The current Congress gives Washington, D.C., including the Internal Revenue Service and the Environmental Protection Agency, more and more power to "legislate" and enforce laws that illegally circumvent the Constitution.

Our political process has been corrupted and the federal bureaucracy has produced severe regulatory burdens that have caused our national debt to grow to $19 trillion.

And there is another $100 trillion coming due in vested Social Security benefits and other programs. We are in a financial crisis that is unsustainable.

Congress has turned state legislatures into their regional agencies rather than respecting them as truly independent sovereign governments.

If we "citizens" do not intervene, then the federal government will continue to bankrupt this nation, embezzle the legitimate authority of the states, and destroy the liberty of the people.

Thankfully, the Founding Fathers were prepared for what is happening today, and provided us with Article V of the Constitution, which empowers individual states to propose amendments.

It was George Mason who wanted this option for "application of the legislatures" for "proposing amendments" because he believed that Congress and the individual states should have equal authority in this matter.

How would a Convention of States end the tyranny of the federal government?

I would fear that we could also lose what we already have if our untrustworthy political dictators got together.

Definitely support the convention. Washington is out of control and much of the power grab over our lives have trickled down to State governments. Look at California and NY. They are becoming real cess pools of human garbage.

It would change the political calculus. Think of it like a recall election - once there is one, the bar to getting another one to happen is far lower. Sort of like simple majority votes in the Senate.

This is a really really bad idea. First if a convention is called it will not be a conservative only affair. About half the country is firmly monnbat. Secondly it is Congress that will set the rules for the convention, not the several states. In theory you could have the entire Constitution open to revision.

Sorry, but what these folks are selling, I’m not buying.

Disagree with this entirely.

The Democrats and Republicans have already shown that they’ll ignore the constitution we already have in place - That goes for those in the federal AND state government.

Do you think “hard rock Republican” conservatives like Mike Pence in Indiana will stand up and fight for individual liberties and rights in a new constitution when the social media comes a-knockin’?

I don’t.

It would change the political calculus.

I would think that George Soros would donate $Bs to overcome the will of the people like he did to get legalized pot and other things. The gay Mafia would raise billions to get their way. Many would spend billions to try to become king of America. We the people could have a real fight and shooting civil war on our hands.

Yes, but join the Citizens for Self-Government effort which targets cutting government power and not the other effort which is focused on a balanced budget amendment which would be a disastrous mistake.

Unless it contains a low tax ceiling, like 15%, a balanced budget amendment would be a disastrous mistake because it would justify the feds raising taxes without censure - just what the Leftists want - and does NOTHING to deal with the REAL PROBLEM: unchecked increase in government size and spending - also just what the Leftists want.

The issue is how to knock out the unconstitutional 80% portion of the $4 trillion federal government.

Contrary to the fears of many, a large federal deficit doesn't kill the economy as has been seen in the last few years. We've had a growing economy (howbeit very slow for other federal government-caused reasons) while we've had unprecedented and deliberate federal deficits.

But the ONE thing that WILL kill our economy and create poverty and hardship is HIGHER TAXES. That is an economy killer and must be avoided. LOWER TAXES, not a lower deficit, is what will energize the economy.

Politicians will always spend more than they get but they can only go so far in doing so. The key to cutting deficits is drastically reducing the size of government, so their deficit spending is relatively small.

Fully agree.
Con con will be the very Pandora’s box we most regret we asked for.
Our problem is not with our constitution, and the solution is not a quick easy fix re-write.
Our problem is much more difficult, namely wide-spread immorality, sense of entitlement, citizen indifference.

I have been strongly opposed to such a convention because, if Leftists were a part of it, they would destroy the United States.

Now I'm not opposed. Leftists are destroying the U.S.A. as it is, and they could not do it more thoroughly at such a convention.

We need a convention of states arranged in such a way that Leftists are excluded.

George Soros ain’t the only billionaire out there. As for legalized pot - I’m one of the people for it.

Until the Article V pushers come up with a singular comprehensive list of what amendments they intend to offer AND GUARANTEE THAT ONLY THOSE AMENDMENTS will be addressed, I still remain skeptical.

Progressives will have their delelates present and lawyers will be lined up from Sacramento to DC to challenge every iota they do not like.

==

Those pushing for the Article V have their hearts in the right place, but their heads are in the clouds, if they think this will produce what they want.

Once the doors close, it is no-holds-barred. Considering the history of the Republicans as the fold-and-compromise party, I would not trust them in any venue with progressives.

I’m not sure a convention would do anything. We already have the 10th amendment which, if followed, would end the current tyranny. Liberals are like the Russian Communists-they don’t care about what the constitution says.

What all the nay-sayers here seem to be missing is that any Article V convention will only be able to propose amendments, regardless of the composition of it (their fears about that are also not well thought out, but that’s another post). Those amendments will still need to be ratified by the legislatures in 3/4s of the states to become part of the Constitution. Do you really think the left could get over that hurdle? If you do, then you should just give up now. Me, I’ll keep fighting.

They don’t obey the Constitution we have now, why would they obey a new one?

Currently the country is being dominated by the big city states mostly on the borders with the exception of Texas and somewhat with Florida. Fly over country is majority red. With an article V convention with each state having one vote, I believe the red or conservative leaning states have a 1.5 to 1 majority. This may change as DC rearranges voting by its leftist immigration policy.

Given this analysis, now is the time to do it. To wait is to allow the majority of states we hold to slip closer to 50% or worse. Meanwhile, while waiting, the federal tyranny continues to march on unabated. I want an article V now and if not, then we get what we deserve which will end up being a liberal paradise regardless of whom gets “elected” as both parties are controlled these days by the left, the only difference the dems want to do it right now, the GOPe is content to just let it slide away.
