San Francisco-based crowdfunding website Indiegogo has allowed a fundraising campaign for the former South Carolina police officer who fatally shot Walter Scott.
A campaign called the Michael T. Slager Defense Fund has at press time raised $1,250 of a $5,000 goal with 58 days left. 45 people have contributed money so far.
Indiegogo allows anyone, anywhere to fund ideas that matter to them and just like other open platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter we dont judge the content of campaigns as long as they are in compliance with our Terms of Use," a representative told Mashable. The site reported that the campaign was first rejected by another crowdfunding site, GoFundMe.
Comments left on the campaign that are visible largely decry it.
"I think this murderer, I mean officer is one of the most disgraceful people Ive ever seen in my life," wrote Mike Scheflowski. "Looks like cold-blooded murder to me," wrote Affigne. "Anyone with more than $1 to donate here (to "earn" the right to comment) should instead spport the victim's family not to help this killer!"
"I've seen many negative reactions to this fund raiser but remember, Ofc Michael Slager deserves a competent defense no matter what the court of popular opinion says about his actions. This is still America," campaign organizer R Owens wrote in an update.
Ugly. Very ugly.
Bizarre. The cop will have a competent defender, but offhand, I’d say he has no defense, and the best he can get would be life in prison. The shooting was clearly completely unjustified and therefore murder, and nobody I know (in law enforcement) can figure out why the cop did that.
Set up by a leftist for propaganda???
The shooter deserves his day in court. That is how our system works, so I support that, I support his firing and I support charges being brought against him.
I can’t see any reason to support his defense. From what I have seen thus far, I can see no justification in his actions, so his defense is up to him
He did it, he can defend it.
I do feel sorry for his victim, the victim’s family, the shooter’s wife who is 8 months pregnant. I can’t imagine what she must be going through.
It’s a trap.
No doubt. And to get names.
Very likely
Probably set up by the “Hands up crowd.”
+1 to everything you wrote.
Slager will get a competent defense, the public reaction to his murder of Scott guarantees that. I’d hate to see massive support for what was clearly wrong.
How does the public reaction guarantee a competent defense?
Lawyers will go for the limelight regardless of the defendant. Some of the worst offenders will get excellent defense lawyers if the case is high profile. The Boston bomber is a case in point. He had excellent representation because of the potential for a death penalty. The anti death penalty group stepped forward.

Yup ... no doubt the ones that troll the WOD threads.
