Unpaid traffic fines and mushrooming fees have left 4.2 million Californians with suspended drivers licenses more than one-sixth of the licenses issued statewide with poor people the hardest-hit, according to a newly published study that criticizes policies that take drivers off the road because of debts they cant pay.

It doesn’t matter...frigging illegals don’t need a license to drive!
So, if you are an illegal alien, and you don’t pay your traffic tickets, does your driving license get suspended? Or are they EXEMPT from these rules, as they are from so many others ?
You might want to read the article about the lady working as a bus driver, who moved, and didn’t notify the DMV within the 10 day period. Got a $25 ticket. Contacted the DMV and took care of the problem. Didn’t realize she still owed the $25.
Then without her knowing it, her license was suspended, she lost her job, and she and her kids are now on welfare.
The $25 ticket has now ballooned to over $2900. How’s she going to pay that on welfare, get her license back, and be able to go back to work?
Wouldn’t it be cheaper for the state to let her pay the $25, waive the rest and get her off welfare?
California has what are called Mandatory Minimum Fines. If you go to court to contest, the judge has no leeway to reduce or set aside a fine. If you did it, you are guilty, and therefore subject to the mandatory minimum. A red light or stop sign violation is 475.00. Counties add administrative fees and then if you do a payment plan, they charge additional fees. I have had this happen twice in 10 years, and my wife did once. She didn’t see a stop sign that had tree branches covering it. My sister-in-law had one going around a corner to turn into a gas station.
I had my picture taken rolling through an intersection, and it cost a total of 535.00, and I work. My income is about 3000 a month after taxes, so that is a good chunk of my money. Imagine not having a job, and 535.00 is a blow, not just a major inconvenience. Imagine being in Obama’s economy, working 2 jobs at minimum wage, and then getting a ticket. The poor actually are hardest hit.
The other time I had a CHP behind me as I was entering the intersection on a stale yellow light. The officer insisted that I ran the red, but I knew it was still yellow. The judge took the officer’s word over mine. Not every ticket is deserved.
I am all for people should be able to pay their fines and have their licenses straight. I don’t respect people who cast aspersions and make fun of any poor person who has their license suspended or revoked. Sometimes I really wonder why I hang around this place where some of the people are quite sickening.
“You can pay your insurance “
Well, YOU can. If you are “a guest”, this is strictly optional - in fact, it is downright stupid to do so. Freedom from any liability is no more than a few hours away.
“475.00”
Well, that must be a pretty wealthy and/or stupid state. Fines at that level here would cause judges to hang from trees like Christmas ornaments.
Betcha 90% are illegals. The left cares less about driving but they now have a voter which is their goal.
The driver of the Toyota Prius (the stopped car) in the fatal crash involving Bruce Jenner was driving on a suspended license. The Prius driver is a agent in Hollywood.
I wondered why two well off drivers would not have a driver license. Guess I just found out why.
>>I guess youve never missed a payment in your life, right?<<
To the government, heck no! That should be #1 on the list.
I live in this State and the main problem is the $350.00 Sacramento assessment fees that they add on TOP of every violation. A $50.00 ticket now costs $400.00! And if you miss a payment, they add another $350.00! It’s a total scam! Not to mention if they impound your vehicle. Bybye sucker!
Liberals love to point that out, under any circumstances. It’s about feelings, not fact, you know.
Glad I left the state some years ago.
I've heard that as far as insurance goes, they buy it long enough to bring their proof of it into the DMV, get the license, then cancel the insurance.
Let me guess: illegals get to drive free.
Having being unemployed for 2 years, it is difficult to get funds just for insurance. I’m blessed to have my brother to help me. There are times I just feel like throwing my hands and say “forget it” let my insurance lapse. I watch myself when driving to prevent getting tickets. I can’t afford any tickets. What pisses me off is the illegals driving with little regards to the law yet we poor who are struggling financially are hardest hit by the dam liberals and their dam rules.
Subterfuge, many do not understand the financial struggle many of us have. I was one of those “get a job” statement. I now realize it is not that easy and one may need to get financial assistance sometimes from city, state, or federal help.
The rich Democrats in California are going to get you out of the state. No water for you! Big fines!
They want you off their beaches and highways. If they can’t enforce you out, they’ll force you out. Ever seen the movie Shane?
“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is its power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anybody? But just pass the kinds of laws that can neither be observed, nor enforced, nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt.” -— Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, p. 406, 1957
There is simple solution for photo radar and red light cameras. Pay a few hundred dollars to set up a Nevada corporation and register your vehicle under it in Nevada. This eliminates the link from the car to you and your license. Also name the company something in Spanish like “Venir y tomarlos, Inc.”
If you drive here for more than a couple of months you must change the registration to this states
That’s what they tell you to do but it doesn’t mean that you should.
