The latest poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) fares the best among the presumed 2016 Republican presidential candidates against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with independent voters, and is one of the top three contenders overall against her.
The poll was conducted from March 26th through March 31st of 989 registered voters, 80 percent by telephone, and 20 percent over the internet to reach respondents without landline phones. The margin of error was +/- 3.1 percent.
Clinton still leads the entire Republican field by 3 to 9 points, but has dropped from the 7 to 10 point advantage she had in PPPs February poll.
Paul, Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) were the strongest matchups against Clinton out of all potential Republican contenders, and had statistically identical results. Clinton leads Paul 46 percent to 42 percent, Walker by the same margin, and Rubio 46 percent to 43 percent.
Paul performed the best out of all Republicans with independent voters, beating Clinton by 14 points, 47 percent to 33 percent.

A good piece of advice might be “Don’t trust someone who can’t read past the headline.” Several candidates were polled against Hillary. Read the article.
“Obama beat McCain among independent voters 52-44%. “
EXACTLY. Those “independents”, including my parents, were NOWHERE TO BE FOUND once the Democrat was available to vote for.
That’s why WE LOSE EVERY TIME when we try to grab that illusive ‘center’.
“All nonsense, none of that is true.”
What country were you in during the first years of this century? I was in the United States, and independents LOVED John McCain - he was the ONE REPUBLICAN they could vote for.
...but they DID NOT, and that’s my point.
The Independents did not love McCain, and they didn’t vote for him.
Nor was he “the most experienced, and arguably the most respected candidate” in Republican history, that is why he was so broke and unsupported during the primary and was so lucky that he was running against Huckabee and Romney in that lame primary, he was no Eisenhower, or Reagan, or H.W. Bush, or Richard Nixon.
“I also think you are mischaracterizing his stance on his attempt to reform the penal system. I give him credit for starting the conversation.”
I DO NOT. Saying that our system is RACIST because a higher percentage of blacks are jailed is playing right into SHARPTON’S hands.
I also don’t appreciate being called a RACIST because I support Voter ID.
I don’t recall McCain actually leading Obama among independents in many pre-election polls.
If Paul said that about Voter ID, he is wrong. I have not seen that quote.
Regarding the justice system, Paul said this in his speech:
“I see an America where criminal justice is applied equally and any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed.”
I assumed he meant that some lengthy mandatory incarceration laws (which may disproportionally affect black people) should be repealed (such as certain minor drug possession crimes which can result in lengthy federal prison sentences). I don’t know exactly what he meant; I’m guessing. I do give him credit, though, for trying to reform the penal system. I think it does need work.
It’s early, just wait.
“If Paul said that about Voter ID, he is wrong. I have not seen that quote.”
SADLY that is just WHO HE IS. Voter ID, like Amnesty, should be a NO BRAINER for any conservative - but Rand seems to have a REALLY TOUGH TIME figuring out which side to be on.

“I dont recall McCain actually leading Obama among independents in many pre-election polls.”
I’ll concede that people that didn’t follow politics closely for the past 30 years may not understand just how ‘moderate’ and ‘independent’ McCain was - but they might want to research him a bit.
Thanks for the link. Sounds like he was pandering to his audience. Foolish.
You must have voted for sKerry, or Gore, huh?
Thanks for the sage advice.
DO NOT TRUST RAND PAUL!
Showing your drivers license to have an honest election I think is not unreasonable, Paul said, and I think thats the main thing Republicans have been for.
Says a backer of one of the worst presidents in our history. Without a doubt the worst GOP president ever. You have zero credibility and anyone that thinks Bush was a conservative does not have any idea of what it means to be conservative.
DO NOT TRUST RAND PAUL!
