Indiana Pizzeria Owners Say They’d Deny LGBT People Service – And Yelp Commenters Weren’t Having It

The owners of a small pizzeria in Indiana were seemingly the first business to say they would publicly deny service to LGBT couples in the wake of Indiana’s new and controversial Religious Freedom Law.

Shortly after Memories Pizza owners agreed in a local newscast that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act allows them to deny service to LGBT people who wanted their pizza at a same-sex wedding, 1-star Yelp reviews rolled in denouncing the business.

Most segregated businesses were required to be so by local law. Woolworth had no national policy to segregate it’s lunch counters.

I've read your post several times and have to speak up.

This is silly...a terrible witness...

It appears you've taken it upon yourself to decide what expressions of religious belief are valid, IE, deserving of constitutional protections. That in and of itself flies in the face of freedom of religious belief.

I do not fear businesses being required to follow civil law, how else are you going to be able to operate if everyone doesn’t follow the same ground rules?

Who has said that businesses shouldn't follow civil law?

What's being said is that is a bad law and violates constitutional protections.

Yep. Government forced or sponsored discrimination is beyond offensive to me. Especially considering the wording of our constitution.

This RFTA issue is a no win situation for the Republicans and conservatives. While I support Religious Freedom, this issue has become toxic and the Republicans and conservatives should focus on issues that are more relevant like; jobs, less government, taxes, etc.

If you think about it this issue has really only affected a handful of people in a very small service industry in the country. If you are in a service industry that may be targets by the gays and you have an objection come up with a creative way around the issue, like subcontract the service to a competitor. Have all contracts written with a disclaimer that the service at any time may be subcontracted to another company... Also, the LGBT community will be playing this Gotcha game looking to sue people for denying them service.

Now I’m confused. I don’t know what you mean by that. What are the two “ways”?”

It’s the “B” in LGBT etc. lol

And I’m betting that most people calling in such an order don’t make a point of telling the pizzeria what the nature of the event is, either.

you are joking, are you not...?

Nope.

sigh...the distinction between mere service and involuntary inclusion in the performance of that service has been explicitly shown to you, and yet you persist in denying the obvious.

Selling individuals a slice of pizza in a shop is one thing; being recruited to cater pizza to, say, an underage orgy is quite another, one which, in a perfect world, could be lawfully refused without hand wringing and nonsense.

or do you deny this?

Yes, just as bad as the “remedy.” Why people, generally, are so frightened of freedom is beyond me.

I did not read the article but does the Pizzeria even do catering? If not, why get wrapped up in this issue. Even if they catered, short of actually having its employees serve the guest or be present during the ceremony , I don’t see how this issue would even apply to them.

I am very happy with churches and religious organizations receiving protections from having to hire as church leaders people who hold heretical doctrines and views. You can’t run a marketplace though if in addition to the current mountain of red tape every entity out there has the right to impose its own regulatory authority over every other entity or individual they deal with. Can you imagine the B to B?!

My wife was eating lunch at Panera and overheard a wedding planner discussing a wedding with a woman. Come to find out, it was same-sex. The planner asked if she wanted any personal decorations and the woman said “I have a lot of rainbows”. The planner responded “It’s a wedding, honey. not a political rally”.
The planner seemed appalled by the lack of reverence for the whole thing.

I’ts not true- Jesus IS God, and the bible is very clear about what and who God hates- there is no verse that says ‘love the sinner but hate the sin’- There are verses which tell us to be prepared to feed the TRULY needy who are our enemies (IE: to ‘love’ them- however, we are still to view them as what they are, enemies of God and God hates sinners- we could go into the issue of election and how those how are the elect, but still unsaved are loved by God=- but that is a long lengthy discussion- this concept is very controversial and not something I wish to get into at this point)

The plain truth of the matter is that God is so holy that He must hate the sinner (the non-elect) (Psalm 5:5; Lev. 20:23; Prov. 6:16-19; Hos. 9:15).

It is true that “God is Love” and that He offers His forgiveness to everyone, however, it is also true that God knows who will accept and who won’t- who will become His children, and who will remain His enemies- And while He still offers His gift of life to His enemies, they will never accept and therefore God must hate them Because He is holy and they are wicked- workers of iniquity- they do the work of their father the Evil One

Psalm 5:5, “The boastful shall not stand before Thine eyes; Thou dost hate all who do iniquity,”

•Psalm 11:5, “The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, and the one who loves violence His soul hates.”

•Lev. 20:23, “Moreover, you shall not follow the customs of the nation which I shall drive out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I have abhorred them.”

•Prov. 6:16-19, “There are six things which the Lord hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: 17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, 19 A false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers.”

•Hosea 9:15, “All their evil is at Gilgal; indeed, I came to hate them there! Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of My house! I will love them no more; All their princes are rebels.”

Psalm 5:4-5

For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
• Psalm 11:5

The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
• Proverbs 6:16

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

“God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” (Psa 7:11)

“How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft comes their destruction on them! God distributes sorrows [to sinners] in his anger.” (Job 21:17)

“Jehovah has made all for His purpose, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.” (Pro 16:4)

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luk 6:45)

“If there come any to you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:” (2Jo 1:10)

“If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.” (1Co 16:22)

“The LORD has made all things for himself: yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.” (Pro 16:4)

Regulatory authority?

How I choose to express my Christian life, and run my business...is not some form of "regulatory authority."

RE :”I’ts not true- Jesus IS God”

Jesus was clearly not God.

Jesus was a human with a human body who prayed and spoke to God as his Father with vocal cords and to real people who he met on Earth, then was killed by the Romans.

God is obviously not human,

So you have no examples?

[[Jesus was clearly not God.]]

I’m sorry, but that simply isn’t true.

God the father, God the Son God the Holy Spirit

In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the Word WAS God (The “Word” is Jesus by the way)

I gave you plenty of verses- and you can read the book of revelations to find out just how much God hates the ungodly and just what Jesus WILL DO to those ungodly people of wickedness

“(Jesus said) ‘I and the Father are one.’

Then the Jews again picked up stones so that they might stone Him....Jesus answered them, ‘Many good works I have showed you from My Father. For which of them are you about to stone Me?’ The Jews answered Him, saying, ‘We will not stone You for a good work, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a man, are making Yourself God.’”

you’re not doing the same thing as the Jews did are you by inferring that Christ isn’t God?

There are plenty more verses which prove Jesus and God are one (Trinity) Are you denying that Jesus is God?

Jesus is the incarnation of God...

Both God and Human...

Jesus himself declared himself as God before Pilate...and before that to the Jews...

You don’t believe it...take it up with God...
