Two reports released in the past week demonstrate a potential bifurcation in state insurance exchanges: The insurance marketplaces appear to be attracting a disproportionate share of low-income individuals who qualify for generous federal subsidies, while middle- and higher-income filers have generally eschewed the exchanges.
The overall picture presented is one of a bifurcated, or even trifurcated, system of health insurance. Individuals who qualify for very rich insurance subsidies or Medicaid have signed up for coverage, while those who qualify for small or no subsidies have not. It raises two obvious questions: Whether and how the exchanges can succeed long-term with an enrollment profile heavily weighted towards subsidy-eligible individualsand whether an insurance market segregated by income was what Obamacares creators originally had in mind.

Bwwwaaaaahhhhaahha! You don’t say!
Why is it every conservative could see the outcome, while the libs always seem confused and dazed about the unintended outcome of their idiotic policies?
Couldn’t care less.
Got a better idea - lets split the atom right over Obamacare and NUKE it to oblivion.
The left is just building another constituency.
you mean it has been an epic fail as a wealth redistribution policy?
But everyone has known that from the beginning.
It was EXACTLY what they had in mind- mandated wealth redistribution.
I'm sure they're puzzled over this unexpected bit of news.
It has been a resounding success in the wealth distribution aspect. No one but the people getting subsidies is signing up. That’s wealth redistribution from the taxpayers to the Feds to the insurance companies.
Those not receiving subsidies are being made to pay MORE to pay for the subsidies.
” The insurance marketplaces appear to be attracting a disproportionate share of low-income individuals who qualify for generous federal subsidies, while middle- and higher-income filers have generally eschewed the exchanges.”
When did anyone (even supporters of Obamacare) ever predict otherwise? The exchanges are intended to attract were previously uninsured and those who do not have health insurance offered through their employer. Of course those groups are skewed toward lower income filers.
