These are voting-age college students and yet we wonder why we get the politicians we do. Check out the video at: http://safeshare.tv/w/oHbxeOtsOP

I'd like to see a current events test for voters and also proof that you paid federal taxes. If you have nothing in the game, why should you vote?

You’ll have to get rid of that pesky 24th Amendment first.

One vote for every $1000 you paid in personal income taxes.

Waters World highlights the stupidity of people.... and why many of them should not be voting.

They did better on current events than history. LOL

Those questions weren’t about current events. That was a poor man’s Jaywalking. If you think being able to vote should be predicated on your acceptance of global warming, prepare to stand on the sidelines.

You want to have the current administration set up a test where you have to give their answers in order to vote?

Don't imagine a test with your position, and your answers.

Do not give government the power to select which citizens get to vote.

Easy to select test questions which would skew results toward a particular political outcome.

Citizenship is enough. If you want a filter, use land ownership.

1) So politicians could off-shore all the jobs in my area, and disenfranchise me from voting? No thanks. You're assumption that everybody that didn't pay taxes is voluntarily out of work is not a good one. What about elderly? You're going to disenfranchise them? What about disabled veterans? You're going to disenfranchise them too?

2) Be careful what you ask for. Who makes the current events test? While the concept seems good, the devil's in the implementation. You're likely to end up with questions that have liberal talking points as answers instead of well rounded current events?

We would never get a ‘test’...skin in the game with either property ownership or taxes...my dream

2) Be careful what you ask for. Who makes the current events test?

From the Democrats, I'd expect questions like:

1. What are Kim Kardassian's hip measurements?
2. Who much money do the stars on Big Bang make each episode?
3. What religion does Tom Cruise belong to?
4. Who was the last Bachelorette?

Or even a history test. Any kind of test would do, other than a means test.

I’m elderly and I still pay taxes, both on SS and earned income. I’m not sure about the tax status of disability benefits. As to the current events tests, what I was really looking for is what the current batch of candidates stand for...what’s their stance on issues of the day. I don’t know who would make up the questions, but I guess it would be some bi-partisan group. Regardless, I’m hard-pressed to understand why my tax dollars are used to buy cell phones for people, unless it’s to buy votes. The recipients’ extent of knowledge often seems to be: “Who do I get the most free stuff from?” and politicians behave accordingly.

As to the income restriction, maybe we draw on Neal Bortz idea that everyone gets one vote, but for every $10K you pay in taxes, you get another vote, up to a max of, say, 5 votes. The Constitution originally restricted voting to property owners, mainly because of vested rights. I’m not as sure as you that they were wrong.

How about a literacy test first. People should be able to read and write english before they vote.

The only item/thing that I believe one should be required to have to vote (besides a voter registration card) is an identification card stating name, current address and citizenship status. This is used to verify in-person voting. For absentee voters, a copy of this card signed by a notary that has verified the real card and copy of the card are one in the same. Very stiff penalties should exist for falsification of cards and absentee voter falsifications.

Before anyone states anything, a picture, name, current address and citizenship status should be the only things on the card. Absolutely no other information should be on the card. You should get it when you register to vote.

Simply in other words a national ID. Or change the government issued ID’s (e.g driver’s license) to include current citizenship/immigration status.

Dad's elderly but doesn't have enough income after SS to pay taxes. He pays payroll taxes for the caregivers that take care of him, but no income tax.

The cell phones don't bother me. It was Reagan who started that, not that it matters. If you want people to get jobs, they really need a phone. My understanding is the gov't pays < $10 a month for those phones. The phones are cheap relative to the cost of unemployment/foodstamps/medicaid benefits I view phones as a basic necessity.

Restore the import tariffs and put Americans back to work, and phone, food stamps, medicaid, and a host of other problems resolve themselves.
