On March 22, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, appearing on WABC’s The Rita Cosby Show, said people speaking critically of NYC’s new gunshot microphone system need to “get a life.”

Breitbart News previously reported on the installation of the ShotSpotter microphone system to capture the sounds of ongoing crime in heavily gun-controlled New York City. According to WNYC, a ShotSpotter system installed in Newark, New Jersey, sent gunshot alerts 3,632 times over a three-year period, yet resulted in only 17 arrests. “Seventy-five percent” of the alerts were false alarms.

During that period, the system cost Newark taxpayers $80,000 a year.

Big brother is watching. I suggest New Yorkers should start setting off fireworks around the city that should keep the cops busy.

Chi-town may need to get this. All of the gun crimes that happen don't seem to get caught on camera!!!??
Is that because there is a BIG BLUE LIGHT on the camera???

The system is clearly an ineffective waste - so, what Bratton is really saying is that people who demand accountability/results from the NYPD need to "get a life"?

He is also saying that the appearance of doing something is more important than actually doing something. Just like a liberal.

The “shot-spotter” is a sh*t spotter— LOL. What a waste of money.

With Bratton, I'm not sure it's a liberal/conservative thing. More of a straight authoritarian thing - he wants this system, he thinks it's right, so he wants you to listen to him or "get a life."

There are two common denominators in all of this “please protect us from ourselves mentality and propaganda.. Corporate donors and CEOs of the hardware cos. are getting rich. Taxpayers get poor while authorities gain power at the expense of our privacy and freedom.

“Get a life”, name calling...it’s how liberals “debate”.

Agreed. Too many times the pols and others play this as liberal/conservative when it about authorities grabbing power and paying off cronies.

Read about the cop body cams being pushed by Tazer who is buying off chief of police mouthpieces. Follow the money still applies. Corruption needs exposed as the first priority while they (beneficiaries) continue to use politics to divide and muddy the water

Why are our officials speaking in an outright abusive fashion these days? “Get a life”?

So if I need a few (hundred...) good quality shotgun mic's, I can just go to NYC and fill my truck with 'em? I mean, what the hell, we paid for 'em, right?

Just wait until Obama's kids realize that each one of them is worth an eight-ball of crack...

LOL!

Minneapolis has had good results with this system in place for the past 5 years or so.

These systems are effectively open microphones.

Have to watch what you say in NYC now.

Just like websites are routinely scanned for keywords/phrases for possible “terrorist” activity, so will the speech of those living around these systems.
