If Netanyahu rules out a Palestinian state and expands West Bank settlements, 'the world, including the British parliament, would have no option, but to recognize a Palestinian state,' says Nick Clegg.
British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reneging support for a two-state solution, saying that if the Israeli leader does not backtrack from those remarks, Britain would have no choice but to recognize a Palestinian state.
Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, called Netanyahu's vow not to create a Palestinian state "alarming," the Guardian reported Thursday.
Netanyahu, while campaigning Monday, said that if he were to be reelected, a Palestinian state would not be created, in a definite disavowal of his 2009 speech, in which he had voiced support for the principle of two states for two peoples.
Netanyahu has since been criticized for those remarks, and also for warning that Arabs were heading to the voting booths "in droves," by U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders.

I think you need to learn a bit more nuanced history of that time. Nobody was saint nor sinner completely.
Firstly, lets remember WHO fought the Nazis and liberated those Jews: the British. Lets also remember it was the British who made the declaration of a Jewish homeland. Not America or France or Germany or Russia.
Were there (in hindsight) errors in British policy?. Yes, but the idea the British treated the Jews like the goosestepping Nazis they just liberate them from is drivel.
The British (who’d only had the country since 1918, from the Ottomans) were the piggy in the middle between two groups that both not only hated them, but attacked them.
And people like you ignore the Jewish terrorism in Palestine: the terrorism of the Irgun and Stern gangs from 1944 to 1948 (although they’d existed for longer). Terrorism which murdered British soldiers, civilians, and many of their own fellow Jews (not to mention their execution of any Jew they felt was pro-British). And Arab and European civilians. They even killed a Swedish count who had spent WW2 SAVING thousands of Jewish lives!.
The two gangs were so appalling, prominent Jews like David Ben Gurion and the Haganah HELPED the British hunt them down. Abraham Stern was such a fanatic he actually met Nazi representatives in 1941 to discuss a deal where he’s attack the British in the area, and in return the Nazis, after they defeated the British in the ME, would allow European Jews to emigrate to Palestine, and the Nazis would allow this Jewish state to exist, as long as they took in as many European Jews as they could.
Oh, and 1948, it was the BRITISH RAF who DEFENDED
G Jewish territory at Ramat David airfield and attacked Arab Legion troops. The only physical western troops in that war were British.
Again, how dare Americans criticise the British re Jews/Israel. Balfour wasn’t American, and you lot did sweet FA to help the Jews gain a homeland. In fact in 1938 you wouldn’t even take Jewish refugees from Hitler’s Germany.
Clegg’s Liberal Democrats are in deep doodoo in the upcoming British vote, in 4th place behind UKIP, and half the support. He thinks this will help him with the unwashed British middle.
A great man, a military genius. The Chindits he created were/are legends. And a very pro-Jewish/Zionist man.
As I am.
If I seem angry, I am standing up for my country, nothing more.
It’s nice to hear about an INDIVIDUAL “here and there” supporting Israel, but this paragraph SAYS IT ALL!!

The Jewish Intelligence Officer didn’t know what to make of this man. Here was a British Intelligence Officer, in complete contradistinction to British Imperial policy at the time, telling him that he would lead the Jews to an independent state. British policy, by 1936, was certainly against an independent Jewish state, and in fact had consistently frustrated attempts to expand Jewish immigration into Palestine. This policy was to become more pronounced with the passing years, and as World War loomed on the horizon, the British limited Jewish immigration into Palestine to a mere trickle. By 1936 (but actually since the inception of the Mandate) few British officers were trusted by the Jews. Most British soldiers were overtly pro-Arab. Few Jews in Palestine knew, in September 1936, what a treasure-trove they had in the person of Orde Wingate, a faithful friend who would do anything to pave the way to an independent Jewish state.

The British Government was TOTALLY AGAINST a Homeland for the Jews and everything that government did went AGAINST THE JEWS and their Homeland!!
The man is a world class moron.
He speaks for very few and with luck will lose his seat in the May election !!!!!
Not a moron, just a rather weak and ineffectual politician, even to his own party and their supporters.
What is up with all this bashing Bibi...? FU!
I do not think Israel wants the Palestinians as citizens for sure
The two state solution was not rejected. It will come to pass if the Palis reject the notion of eradicating Israel.
Since that is not likely, the Palistinian state is not likely
Basically, in spite of all the fooferaw, the status quo prevails....... obama loses
nobody gives a damn about obama
The Bible is a good place to get the answer to that question.
“Want to know how warped this is? Giving Iran a bomb to destroy Israel also destroys the Palestinians. Has anyone in their right mind even thought of that little tidbit of information?”
I don’t think the anti-Semites care. It’s just collateral damage. They are not so much pro-Palestinian as anti-Israel.
Ha, great point.
If Likud organized a political party in America, I would join it.
They should definitely organize a party in the UK.
Let the next election speak.
“The British Government was TOTALLY AGAINST a Homeland for the Jews and everything that government did went AGAINST THE JEWS and their Homeland!!”
That is not true, as the Scotsman has pointed out. British policy was mixed. There was considerable support for a Jewish homeland within the British government.
The paragraph that you quote directly contradicts your words.
Thank you, sir.
It doesn’t sound like that paragraph contradicted my words at all, and any other person reading it will think the same thing, as I say.
Here is just one partial sentence from that paragraph ... “Here was a British Intelligence Officer, in complete contradistinction to British Imperial policy at the time ...”
Hmmm ... “in complete contradistinction to British Imperial policy at the time ...”
The Jewish Intelligence Officer didnt know what to make of this man.
And once again ... “The British Government was TOTALLY AGAINST a Homeland for the Jews and everything that government did went AGAINST THE JEWS and their Homeland!!”
If the British Government had their way, namely if they hadn’t been fought against and blocked and DRIVEN OUT of the Jewish Homeland, the British Government would have had one state consisting of 2/3 ARABS and 1/3 Jews, with it being a PRIMARILY ARAB COUNTRY, with a few JEWS in it ... and NOT what we have today, which is a JEWISH NATION and country and a true HOMELAND FOR THE JEWS!
It’s a good thing that the British Government was NOT ABLE to accomplish what they tried to accomplish ... in establishing another ARAB COUNTRY in the Homeland of the Jews!
After and before 1948 the British Empire has diminished as a world power and continues to this day.
If the UK and the EU forces Israel into this God will cause the UK and the EU to finally lose land and decline to the point of totally economic collapse and not able to defend them selves.
Well ... we’re coming to the time when God judges all the nations, as they will all turn against Israel. It’s not a question of “if it will happen” ... but “when it will happen”.
