Black actors and actresses are tired of being put in the entertainment ghetto, Dr. Boyce D. Watkins tells host Don Lemon While viewers were burning up social media about the explosive Empire season finale that aired Wednesday night on Fox, a heated debate was happening over on Don Lemons CNN Tonight. After showing a clip of the knock-down, drag-out, drink-throwing, weave-pulling catfight between Cookie and Anika, the conversation turned to whether the Fox hip-hop drama negatively portrays African-American culture.

Don’t forget “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka” and “Don’t Be A Menace To South Central When Drinking Your Juice In the Hood”; two of the most honest portrayals of the ghetto and two of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. O Ging (over-golding) instead of ODing, and a main character with a father a couple of years younger than him...
I don’t think it is a Fox show, but I’m shocked that “The Maury Show” is allowed to air in this day and age. Nobody can watch it without forming some very negative opinions about certain people...
I know an emigre thus who got a full ride scholarship his senior year of college, after getting his American citizenship his junior year.
Apparently the black admin in the financial aid office was not amused when he asked for an AA scholarship form.
I have heard about the show, and just happened to come across it while channel surfing the other night. I decided to watch a little. I think it was the Season Finale. The scene I watched was a complete, verbatim rip off from one of the most popular scenes in the Eminem movie “8 Mile!” Pretty funny, a black TV series ripping off scenes from a “White Rapper” movie from 7 or 8 years ago.
I recorded an episode last week to see what all the fuss was about, I was only able to stomach about 10 minutes before I deleted it and told my pvr not to record that crap any more.
Exhibit A: The weekly cat fight/beat down at McDonald’s or Chuck E. Cheese.
The show’s a large hit from what I hear. Who cares what the ten people watching Don Lemon think, do or say? Of course, hip hop is coarse, but its intellectual value is at least equal than or greater to that of CNN content.
the next step.....The Hip Hop News...LIVE on CNN.
your favorite Hip Hop “stars” presenting The NUWZ live from the Hood?
lots of growth potential...sounds like a real blockbuster to me
the conversation turned to whether the Fox hip-hop drama negatively portrays African-American culture
any accurate portrayal would be negative
I uh missed those...
I assume that's a real word and not just poor spelling...
Still handsome.
Definitely worth seeing; the second one is a spoof (they combined the names of a bunch of ‘hood movies) with the Wayans brothers.
If some whitebread cracker said Ghettofied Coonery’ they would be treated like an OU frat boy. If one citizen can say it all citizens can say it.
Aye if it isnt Sean Coonery!
Thank you!
That’s right folks, don’t touch that dial.
I am the slime from the video...
Is that possible?
not as its “practiced”...so to speak.
