He did think so, but it is wishful thinking. The LA riots ended when mailmen wouldn’t enter the war zone (and deliver welfare checks) - that showed no disturbance could last more than a month. While since then it is done electronically, Hurricane Katrina showed that once the food deliveries stop the savages become much more docile (takes much less than a month). In the end, permanently-dependent populations have about as much freedom as a caged zoo animal; beyond “food deserts”, they live in areas bereft of basic security, education, etc.

I'd guess that if hyperinflation were to occur in the welfare state, it would only be a matter of days before some neighborhoods descended into complete anarchy. Gov't transfer payments would continue on "as promised" but the value of those payments would be nil.

The plumber, the baker, the butcher and the dentist can raise their prices daily or hourly if need be. What can those dependent on gov't handouts do?

My take is that I would not want to live in any urban area. And whatever the Ferguson PD pays, it can't possibly be enough.
