An Illinois high school principal is defending his decision to exclude white students from a Black Lives Matter event held at his school.
On February 27th, Oak Park and River Forest High School principal, Nathaniel Rouse, hosted a Black Lives Matter event exclusively for black students. The assembly was intended to culminate Black History Month with a discussion on race relations. Approximately 350 black individuals attended the event. When white students attempted to attend the assembly, however, they were denied entry.
Parents who were upset over the schools decision to exclude non-black students from the event voiced their opinion to the Chicago Tribune. Rouse responded to the concerns of the parents by stating, First and foremost, this is not meant to give a connotation that we were trying to be exclusive.
In a statement on the Oak Park and River Forest High School website, the school addressed the controversy: [S]ome students and parents expressed confusion and concern about the event being for Black students only. Information about the event lacked clarity about this aspect of the conversation, and the high school is committed to improving communications in the future. Further conversations among and across other racial affinity groups shall take place at the high school in the coming months and into next year.
Rouse defended his decision to keep non-black students from the assembly by referring to the concept of affinity groups. According to the schools statement, Racial affinity groups are often used in learning communities to help facilitate positive identity exploration and provide people with similar experiences a space in which to pose questions and process topics"
According to Principal Rouse, the conversation was an opportunity for students who identify as Black to speak openly, honestly, and productively.
Rouse told the Chicago Tribune affinity groups are helpful to discussions on race, as he found it has been far easier for me to talk about my experiences with racism with individuals that look like me. He added, I still struggle myself with talking about my experiences with people who dont look like me.
Rouse hopes to host similar racial affinity group discussions in the future with different races, saying he believes the affinity group is the safe way for us to move forward in a safe environment.
Go ahead and do this sort of petulant angry child exclusion. Do it more. the natural result will be predictable.
That’s racist ....
If I had kids in school and they were excluded from Black Lives Matter, I would consider it a gift.
Not that "Black Lives Matter" events should have any place in a taxpayer-funded institution, but people like Rouse are the reason God gave us middle fingers.
Apparently Holder and Obama are correct: Racism is still rampant in this country.
Segregation’s, okay when it’s democrats doing the segregating, unless it’s the white democrats like it was fifty plus years ago.

Sounds like this black principal is making the case for segregated schools. He can’t be racist, though, because he’s black.
First, let's get rid of this African hyphenated American crap. We're all "Americans". No one would agree with a European-American label. Let's dump the Congressional Black Caucus in congress. Blacks would never tolerate a Congressional White Caucus. Toss out Black History Month. Why not White History Month? The examples go on and on.
One of the first things Eric Holder accused Americans of when he took office, was that Americans were "cowards" because they didn't want to have a conversation about race. Well, with this Rouse fellow blocking white students from attending this event, how is that conversation ever going to get started?

Yeah. That's right. It's just racism by another name.
I say this because the "black lives matter" message clearly needs to be disseminated to those who are taking black lives on a regular basis in places like Chicago. (hint: it's not white teens who are killing black people in the 'hood)
Somehow, I don't think the topic of rampant black-on-black murder was discussed at this 'important' event.
That wouldn’t bother me, if only both sides got to initiate it. But as it stands, only blacks get to say what can be “exclusive”. Do you know how pathetic it sounds for white parents to whine that blacks excluded their white children from having to hear all about how guilty they are? When what white parents should have done in response is to say, “That’s fantastic! We agree! Sometimes you just need to talk to your ‘own kind’, we agree! so while y’all are doing it in that room, we’ll be over here in this room explaining to our kids that no, you are not responsible for the sins of your forefathers, any more than others want to held liable for the dysfunctions of their racial brethren”.
This kind of thing goes back decades.
Only a stupid douche nozzle liberal would exclude people and then say he was not trying to be exclusive.
what about the brown illegal alien kids ???
Safe, safe, safe. As if he's going to be attacked.
Reverse the races in this scenario and then hear what it sounds like.
Maybe the white students should hold a “Black Lives Don’t Matter” event that excludes blacks?
No, they don’t need to hold any meetings about blacks, except peripherally. The white parents of these white children need to first-thank heaven that their white children didn’t get to go, because all that would have happened would be that their children had to sit there and be told how evil they are. Then they need to hold a meeting for their children and explain to them that all through life they will hear that somehow they are guilty for what some dead people did, but it’s not true. they will hear that it’s “stereotyping” to hold other races responsible for what their racial brethren do, no matter how large the cohort, but that just as those people expect to not be “stereotyped” for what happens in the here and now, they are not to allow themselves to be held responsible for what dead people they never even knew did.
People should be grateful about this, I’m sure the kids are. He saved them from another indoctrination session.
blacks are 13% of the population...
AND Democrats take them for granted.
Illegals are taking over entry level jobs.
Whites are tired of the endless black pity party...
AND the race card quit working a year ago...
I'm almost at the point of feeling sorry for them...
