I don’t see where the “wrong” is in this letter. Neither Article I of the Contitution nor Article II says Congress sill not communicate with a foreign poet regarding the requirements of the Constitution for ratification of treaties. That’s all those Senators did.

It was an "open letter", which is no different than penning an editorial. It contained nothing that's secret or damaging to the United States.
It is the duty of our representatives to try and stop anyone (including the President) from helping our enemy get nuclear weapons.
