....Hollywood star Sharon Stone was scheduled to make a (paid) appearance in Ecuador last year to talk about the environment and generally say how bad Chevron was, etc. She was paid a significant sum of money for this activism but two small problems cropped up. First, she didnt show up to do the appearance. And second, according the hosts of the event, she kept the money anyway.

The company didn’t put it in writing? They were asking for trouble. (Although at leat one actress, Kim Basinger, went bankrupt after a verbal contract was enforced by a court)

I always figured she was exactly like the psycho she portrayed in Casino, and she keeps confirming my suspicions.

Hmmm...I wonder how much she’ll charge to give a lecture at Harvard about the theory of relativity?
To: thackney
How many years do some have to work for them to get that much money and yet she could not be bothered to go there.
Stunning

Mia Farrow received $188,000 and Danny Glover was paid $330,000.

accepted $275,000 to attend an anti-Chevron event in Ecuador last year but failed to appear That is absolutely hilarious! We have friends that retired to Ecuador. It is a phenomenally beautiful place and the cost of living is low. Unfortunately, they actually ended up coming back home after a couple of years and got a divorce. He got caught having sex with one of the maids.
The problem is that the crime rate is very high. We know of retirees who have been kidnapped and held for ransom and after the ransom was paid they were actually kidnapped again.
One has to wonder... how smart is it really to stiff people from South America who have the ability to raise $275,000. Sharon is lucky if the group she stiffed hasn't already hired someone to “take her out”. People willing to provide that type of service are inexpensive down there and most are probably willing to take a short jaunt up to LA.
