WASHINGTON (AP) — Investigators said Thursday they have recovered 32,000 emails related to a former IRS official at the heart of the agency's tea party scandal.
But they don't know how many of them are new.
The emails were to and from Lois Lerner, who used to head the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. Last June, the IRS told Congress it had lost an unknown number of Lerner's email when her computer hard drive crashed in 2011.
At the time, IRS officials said the emails could not be recovered. But at a congressional hearing Thursday evening, IRS Deputy Inspector General Timothy Camus said investigators recovered thousands of emails from old computer tapes used to back up the agency's email system.
"We recovered quite a number of emails but until we compare those to what's already been produced we don't know if they're new emails," Camus told the House Oversight Committee.

Got that right. Calculate hash values for the first 160 characters of email messages and compare to hashes for already-known messages to filter those out. Then pump the remaining emails into a modern Document Management System to make the new ones fully searchable and viewable. Probably about 12 hours of programmer work, with maybe another 8 hours of admin time to set up the needed servers.
I hope the drip, drip, drip of this is causing that bitch untold anxiety....sort of like an IRS audit.
Post them all online and let us do it.

Boehner appointed ‘fireball’ Trey Gowdy back in May of 2014 to investigate. That was ten months ago. Another alphabet agency, the FBI, is supposed to be investigating as well.
Gowdy has gotten around to following up on some subpoenas-—and is just recently recommending a special prosecutor. Anyone who thought he was a ‘special prosecutor’ well, you were apparently mistaken.
As you say, this will drag on until Obama leaves office but until then the GOP will throw out scraps of red meat to “extremists” (like us), Koskinen and Lerner will segue into fat pensions and gold plated retirement benefits (did you see the thread on the generous inventive/reward payments she got for the three years up-to getting caught?), and basically not a damned thing will be done to actually punish either one of them for political corruption, perjury, obstruction of justice, etc., other than finding them in contempt of Congress.
Heavens to Murgatroyd. Contempt. Good only for that term and with no actual repercussions, as we saw with Eric Holder. It’s just theater, BS from the GOP establishment.
And plenty more scandals to go in the next year or so! As Obama ‘goes for broke’ understanding that—like “undocumented immigrants—he and his helpers can pretty much get away with anything they have done or will do because, what do you get when you reward, or fail to punish, bad behavior?
That’s right: you get a guy doing things that he earlier admitted he had no business trying to do.

Pure crab to be certain. Congress will hold more hearings, red meat will be thrown to conservatives, nothing will be done. We are a lawless society.
I would like to think: Not if the Government is small enough.
