Last week former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani claimed that President Obama "doesn't love America" at a fundraiser for potential Republican Presidential candidate Scott Walker. The comments caused a major controversy, and only this week has Giuliani partially walked back from his words saying in an editorial in the Wall Street Journal that he didn't "intend to question President Obama's motives of the content of his heart".
YouGov's latest research shows that Americans do tend to think that Barack Obama does, in fact, love America. 47% say that the president loves America, while 35% agree with Rudy Giuliani that the president does not. There is a predictably large partisan divide on the issue, however, with 85% of Democrats saying that he loves America and 69% of Republicans saying that he does not. Independents are roughly divided on the issue, with 42% saying he loves the country and 38% saying he doesn't.
58% of Americans, including 54% of Democrats, say that Rudy Giuliani loves America. Only 10% say that he does not.
When Americans themselves are asked whether they love America, under-30s are noticeably less likely than their elders to say that they love America. 93% of over-65s and 90% of people aged 45 to 64 say that they love America, but only 71% of under-30s also say that they love America. 15% of under-30s say that they do not love America, while 14% aren't sure.
Broken down along ideological lines, liberals (13%) are more likely than either moderates (5%) or conservatives (4%) to say that they do not love America. 90% of conservatives say that they love America, compared to 85% of moderates and 82% of liberals.

Sorry. Lot of Gen Yers simply have had too comfortable lives to appreciate the crueler aspects of the world.
I grew up with them...
I bet that number would be impressive to the poll you would get from the 1960’s Baby Boomers who were completely against America. Kent State and all that....Woodstock.....Vietnam War protests. I would be surprised if 25 percent loved America back in those dark days.
And easily half of them have no idea what America was — and should be again.
We’re ripe for a Civil War just based on these attitudes.
Hipster-Doofus Obama fans. How’s that Rite-Aid job and $50,000 worth of school debt workin out for ya?
I certainly haven’t been proud of this country since 2008.
Public Education by a friggin’ union is such a great idea!
Well then, let’s just chuck the thing in the trash.
Thank you, CommieCore and the progressives.
Commies promised to infiltrate our education system, way back in the 60’s. And, they’ve succeeded. All in the name of PC.
Well, America being the free place it IS, they can always LEAVE!
No one will stop them.
...and in 10 years they'll be looking to change the name itself, just like the "Redskins", "America" will need to be replaced with something that doesn't remind new-age progressives(or the rest of the world)of our "sins of the past".
Government indoctrination is working.
Let’s look at the good news.... 71% if youngin’s still love their country.
That’s a landslide over the 29%.
What America?
Do these kinds of polls ever specify what they mean by America?
Is America its government?
Is America its geography?
Is America the people who live in the United States? All the people, republican, democrat, legal, illegal, Christian, and Muslim, or only some of the people?
Is American its history?
Is America only the United States, or all of America, North and South.
Stupid question!!!
And what does it mean to “love” America? Does it mean, “my country right or wrong?” Does it mean adoring government “leaders,” no matter how ignorant or evil they are? Does it mean embracing any law or any action of the government no matter how immoral those laws and actions are?
I would never say I love America. I love the fact that I can live in America, because I happen to love the people and society where I currently live. Perhaps I can say I love some things about some parts of America, but quite frankly there many things about this country today that I loath, because they are the opposite of all that was once good and lovable about this country.
Perhaps you have to be over 74 to understand that.
The problem is that America is increasingly being defined as the American government. In fact, the totalitarians really consider America to be the American or Federal government.
As the US federal government devours, subsumes and becomes synonymous with America, there will be nothing left to love, unless you love tyranny.
Let’s bring in a few million more illegals to prop up corrupt democrats and steal jobs - I’m sure we can get that number lower...
I used to love America. I’m not sure I can say I love the husk of a republic that Obama and the dems and republicrats have left us.
