When Pastor Adam Phillips moved across the country with his wife two years ago and planted a new congregation in Portland, Ore., he was heeding the call of his Christian roots, an Evangelical Covenant tradition that today has a primary mission to reach young people, engage a growing multiethnic population, and develop vibrant local churches that make disciples.
Pastor Adam, as his congregation at Christ Church: Portland calls him, was well suited for such a mission. Young, familiar as much with Tumblr as with theological tomes, and a former director of faith mobilization for the ONE Campaign, the antipoverty group cofounded by U2s Bono, Mr. Phillips brought a charisma and enthusiasm common to generations of evangelical ministers.

I wonder what spiritual maturity and formal theological training he brought with him?
Hell-bound apostates, false prophets who call God a liar.
“The cult of what’s happening now”
From the article:
Some people want ... [to] take a surgeons scalpel to the Word of God, wrote Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the nations largest evangelical denomination, in a response to the movement last year. He accuses the movement of trying to reinterpret what the Bible clearly calls immorality.
This is infidelity to the gospel weve received, Mr. Moore continues. First of all, no one refusing to repent of sin be it homosexuality or fornication or anything else will inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor. 6:9-10). This strategy leaves people in condemnation before the Judgment Seat of Christ, without reconciliation and without hope.
I’m wondering if he brought the Holy Spirit with him?
When I hear about such “Evangelicals” it makes me wish that someone had thought to write down the things Jesus said and what he did, along with the thoughts of his apostles.
Such a book could offer valuable guidance. It’s a shame it apparently doesn’t exist.

Rob Bell says that its just a collection of 2000 year old letters.
Yeah, whatever makes ya happy. Sick world we live in.
Amen Brother. I’d leave any church espousing anything NOT in the KING JAMES BIBLE.
There is but 1 GOD and His name is Jehovah, there is but 1 Savior who is the only Son of Jehovah and that is Jesus Christ!
There is only 1 unforgivable sin, to blaspheme the Holy Ghost.
Great is OUR GOD, Mighty is HIS NAME!

The infiltration of male queers into the Catholic Priesthood destroyed the lives of many young boys, not to mention the billions it cost the church along with its reputation. Evil doers seem to infiltrate every good organization but that does nothing to take away from true Christianity. The Sodomites are obsessed with their perversion and fully intend to force the issue, especially on the very young.
I see such pastors as the logical result of the modern gospel with it’s puny wrathless God. The God most hear preached is not the God of the Bible. The God of the Bible is mighty and He’s sovereign. He isn’t a milquetoast God who is so loving He winks at the sin of his creatures. The God of the Bible is HOLY HOLY HOLY!
But if some fools like this Oregon pastor want to copy a century old, failed model, let them do so.
LGBT folks’ identity as Christians is risible.
Hellbound
I believe that I will go out on a limb and call this pastor a liar. When he says:
“Though he does not perform same-sex marriages, which are strictly forbidden by his denomination, he has advocated that traditional church teachings on what he has called celibacy in singleness and faithfulness in heterosexual marriage be extended to, and expected of, LGBT Christians as well.”
he knows very well that is not what homosexuals who want to be in the Christian church are advocating for. Most churches would accept a homosexual individual if that individual repents and becomes chaste in their life style. The problem is most homosexuals do not want to repent of their lifestyle let alone change it. They want the church to “repent” of it’s holding to the biblical witness of homosexual behavior. They want full inclusion with the ability to marry a same-sex spouse, to raise children, to adopt children and to serve in leadership (which of course would take more “repenting” by the church for following the biblical witness on leadership).
His denomination was right to see thru his charade. I can only hope that they will call him to task on his bearing false witness and defrock him.
These 'Millennial Evangelicals' don the sheep apparel and appear loving and kind -- but in the end they are just serving Satan and they'll lead their flock into hell.
'Repent ye therefore, and be converted' is apparently not in their lexicon.
I've mentioned this many times but it still bears repeating. From a very wise FReeper came these words...
"There's only one reason adults want to teach kids about homosexuality."
You can’t really argue about that!
The church of Laodicea has been alive & profitable for some time now. The narrow-way is more narrow than we can envision.
