The model of "liberal" evangelicalism was the road the mainline denominations used starting about 1900 or so. These are the same denominations whose gross membership numbers in 2015 are lower than they were in 1950, when the nation had less than one half its current population. These were once the most prestigious churches in the country, where most affluent people congregated. These churches are now mostly empty on Sundays. Nobody, not even the liberal media, cares much about what they have to say.
But if some fools like this Oregon pastor want to copy a century old, failed model, let them do so.
And that was exactly what the left wanted, to force “relevancy” on the churches until they ran out of “relevancy”. The churches who only want to stay relevant in God’s Word, thrive, at the margins. What will these nominal Christian churches accept next in the name of “relevancy”?
