SALEM, Ore. (AP) Just hours after Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber announced his decision to resign, a subpoena arrived in a state office building confirming that federal agents are looking into the influence-peddling scandal that led to the abrupt end of a four-decade political career.
The Democratic governor gave in to mounting pressure Friday, abandoning his office amid suspicions that his live-in fiancée used her relationship with him to land contracts for her green-energy consulting business.
His resignation, which takes effect Wednesday, cleared the way for Secretary of State Kate Brown to assume Oregon's highest office and become the nation's first openly bisexual governor.
"This is a sad day for Oregon. But I am confident that legislators are ready to come together to move Oregon forward," said Brown, also a Democrat. Unlike most states, Oregon does not have a lieutenant governor. The secretary of state is next in line to succeed the governor.

Unfortunately for Oregon, the recent election was for his fourth term as governor.

Argentina has boffo fly-fishing. That would factor heavily in Kittzy’s choice.

I think the guy resigned because he knew those subpoenas were being prepared and no way to escape the obvious.
From what I’ve read about his live-in girlfriend she also failed to report $180,000 from some or another source for tax purposes....it’s really not hard to see where she has benefited for her Green Programs.....makes you wonder why they took so long to get those ducks in order.

Of course! Whenever a Pubbie gets into trouble the LSM never has any trouble reporting party affiliation.

makes you wonder why they took so long to get those ducks in order. They've known about it for a good while, I suspect. They were only motivated to action after it became a very public spectacle. That's about the only thing that will make the Feds act.

Well, it is in the story. But if he were a Republican, you’d have known his name well before the election.

My hometown newspaper. Kinda makes me proud...or would, if they didn’t have a lousy track record decades long.

live-in fiancée P>I think' shack-up ' is the word that AP is looking for. Or they might try 'concubine' if they want to sound educated.
