McDonald’s estimates it will take at least three to six more months for its business in China to return to a normalized level. The executive said Japan has taken longer to recover. Worsening perceptions are expected to hurt Japan’s results for “the foreseeable future.”

So what is McDonald's saying here? That the Chinese care less about safe meat than the Japanese???

A food manufacturer in China doing something unethical, I’m shocked, shocked I tell you! I guess McDonald’s failure was to have a staff of their own inspectors in every corner of the manufacturers facility 24-7? I amazed that anyone in China would be surprised by what food suppliers in their country do.

Will McDonalds become the next Radio-Shack? If the rats have their way, yes.

I’m sure there are many other factors as well.

For example, McD faces lots of competition from other places, such as 5 Guys and In and Out. These other places have expanded greatly in recent years. There are only so many burgers to be sold and eaten.

...sure the decline isn’t because of slumping tofu burger sales?

One bite and it’s instant barf. I used to be able to eat mcD and I can still eat Burger King and five guys. There’s something in mcD nowadays. That’s about all I can say. If mcD would remove the new chrmical(s) it could save money and receive my return patronage

Maybe with the retirement of the CEO, mcDonalds will back away from the hip hop, thug culture, and profits will return.

While the hip hop/thug culture may be embraced in the US, it is rejected by most of the world. This would explain the 12% drop in sales.

McDonald’s shares fell $1.09 to $92.90 in afternoon trading. McDonald’s Corp. said that its performance in the segment that includes the Asia-Pacific region was hurt by broad-based consumer perception issues in Japan as well as the ongoing fallout from a food-safety scandal in China and shift in the timing of the Chinese New Year.

: McDonalds is having a difficult time shaking rumors that their hamburgers still contain beef.

In Hong Kong’s Kowloon Park they have a McDonald’s kiosk.

Don’t even sell burgers or fries. Maybe that is the problem!

(They do sell various drinks, to include smoothies.)

I wonder if any of their declining sales could be related to these bogus online videos, blog postings, etc. that have gone viral about their hamburgers being made out of supposedly artificial ingredients because they’ll “never mold”, wherein they leave them in an environment to where they get completely dried out, and thus mold cannot develop as there is no moisture, and people think it is legit.

McDonalds has done a great job revamping its stores and it should make sure that all its restaurants are up to standard. The absolute worst part for me concerning McDonalds especially in the past is that many of them just stink whether it is rancid oil or something else which is unforgivable for restaurant. Its other problem is that it seems to have an identity problem with nothing in particular that it is known for doing particularly well. The primary time I choose McDonalds is when I want an inexpensive meal for the family not because it is a top fast food place I really prefer to go. The best burger I’ve had a McDonalds was a Quarter Pounder Big Mac which was only because a restaurant in CT would stop making the smaller patties after a certain time for some reason so I could only have a Big Mac with the larger patties and it was simple but excellent. I think some of these restaurants have just forgotten their roots. Why do they think Five Guys and In and Out and other places that focus on just serving great burgers are doing so well?

Right now the old guard fastfood restaurants are holding their own but increasingly they are facing competition from smaller privately owned restaurants and restaurants that simply provide quality food that tastes good without the need for millions in marketing to make you want to go there and even though little can equal the buying power of a McDonalds in the end that may not matter if the buying power is used to provide substandard fair.
