Cyprus to offer military facilities to Russia: President

Cyprus will offer Russia military facilities on its soil, President Nicos Anastasiades said on Friday.

In an interview with a local newspaper, Anastasiades said that a pact strengthening defense relations between the two countries will be signed when he visits Moscow on Feb. 25.

"There is an old (defense) agreement which is to be renewed as it is. At the same time, some additional facilities will be provided just like we do with other countries - France and Germany for example," Anastasiades said.

Cyprus is currently providing facilities to French planes, such as refueling and maintenance at an air force base near the western city of Paphos and port facilities to German ships supporting the United Nations peace operations in Lebanon.

The air force base at which Russian planes will use is about 40 kilometers from Britain's sovereign Air Force base at Akrotiri, on the south shores of Cyprus, which provides support to NATO operations in the Middle and Near East regions.

I forgot about that. Some of those former Russian bases are ecological disasters.

The are many Russians and their cash living on Cyprus. They practically have colonized the island. The Greeks view them as a guarantor against the Turks.

I wonder if this has to do with the recent elections in Greece?

I’ve read that Putin has offered “loans” (bribes?) to Greece’s new commie government in order to ease the pain of the economic yoke that they think is being yanked by Germany/EU.

Cyprus (the part that’s not a puppet-state of Turkey) still harbors dreams of “enosis” with Greece, and maybe this is part of that new friendliness that the Greeks are showing to Russia, and a big FU to the EU? Maybe a little poking in the eye of Turkey too.

Likely drawing too many lines, but anyway it’s just a thought.

Are we really sure where Turkey’s loyalties will lie when the Kurds demand their own nation?

Are we really sure where Turkey’s loyalties will lie when the Kurds demand their own nation?

The days of counting Ankara as a reliable ally are gone, as Turkey is turning away from Europe and toward the Muslim world. With Turkey go NATO's strategic Bosporus and Dardanelles choke points, but more immediately comes added chaos for the Middle East and Israel.

Can this be related?

Cyprus + Greece = Greek Orthodox

Greek Orthodox Churches are united in communion with each other, and with the other Eastern Orthodox Churches. The Eastern Orthodox hold a common doctrine and a common form of worship, and they see themselves not as separate Churches but as administrative units of one single Church.

Cyprus is Chittim (or Kitim) in the Bible:

“And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.” Numbers 24:24

“The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.” Isaiah 23:1

“For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.” Daniel 11:30

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” Romans 15:4

I think it might have more to do with Cyprus being an offshore tax haven and money laundering hotbed for Russian oligarchs.

Probably the best guarantee they can get. With Obama in office no one gets protected from Muslims.

[snip] ...the Cypriot Foreign Minister declared that what the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, “referred to in a recent interview, was the renewal of a military cooperation agreement with Russia, consisting of maintenance of military equipment sold to Cyprus years ago, as well as the purchase of spare parts according to existing contracts.” Moreover, regarding the offering of facilities, he explained that “these are of a purely non-military nature. They relate to humanitarian nature matters such as the evacuation of Russian civilians from the Middle East if the need arises.” [/snip]

(IOW, when Syria finally collapses and the remaining Russian nationals have to be evacuated)
