Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker believes Mitt Romney is a "good man and would have been a good president," but now that the former Massachusetts governor has officially backed out of the 2016 race, Walker would like his support among the list of possible Republican presidential hopefuls.
"I would love to have his endorsement," Walker told Fox News Channel's Bret Baier during a segment that aired Friday of an interview that will be running as part of a series surrounding potential 2016 candidates.
At the same time, Walker said that he thinks it is "a time for new fresh ideas," and he appreciates "the fact in his comments that he pointed out it is time to maybe pass the torch and look for new leadership."
Walker, who took a call from Romney while he was being interviewed by Baier, said that there is no doubt that Romney's decision not to mount a third try at the presidency changes the Republican landscape....

Walker is 100% GOPe. He’s the quiet Crispy Creme and not Jebbie Booshie.
Besides, wouldn’t Romney’s endorsement mean Scott might have access to some deep monetary pockets?
Oh bull crap. These are the same things they said about Reagan - gee, I guess I’ll just sit out the 2016 election - no one is pure enough to vote for, according to the purists on here. Everyone is a RINO - here a RINO, there a RINO, everywhere a RINO. I’m not sure most on here even understand what a true conservative is. They just like to throw the term around as if they are in the know. We aren’t going to get anyone who agrees with our own special snowflakes 100% of the time, so we need to accept someone who is at least in love with this country, is for a strong national defense, someone who will restore our military to it’s proper place, and yes, someone who is strong on social issues. Walker isn’t going to fight the same-sex marriage - even though I’m sure he doesn’t believe in it. I think he feels he has spent enough money and time in the courts to last him a lifetime. This is going to get heavy as we get closer to elections - most on here will beat up and spit out someone who might just make a good president - given the chance. Instead, they will stay home, sulk and either let a real RINO get the nomination, or God forbid - another DEM wins the WH. (off my soapbox now).
Either he thinks that he has all the conservative votes in the bag already, or he is going the Jebbie path and don’t care if he has conservative votes.
Most impartial people (including Steve King) who’ve watched all the speakers at the Steve King event say that Ted Cruz “won” and everyone else did fine on a sliding scale, yet the media chose to give the headlines and the win to Scott Walker. Why would they do that?
It’s a great interview.. I’m watching the replay of it now. And the noise about his supposedly supporting citizenship for illegals was crap created by the newspaper in Wausau, WI. He supports better opportunities for LEGAL immigrants.
I hope that's sarcasm. Another Chamber of Commerce lapdog has been outed, and we should accept that? RINOs have shown they rather lose the election than cede power to a constitutional conservatism, so they should.
Walker supports the invasion of the US. Now this? He's over.
And the retort to that would be: We’re $18 trillion in debt, the country is losing the war on terror while our “leaders” can’t even decide what to call the enemy, 92 million people are off the job rolls, 46 million people are sucking the welfare teat, our education system turns out people who are so dumbed down they can’t even name the three parts of the federal government... all under the so-called “leadership” of those holding lofty collegiate degrees. So why again should a college degree be a prerequisite?
“Walker supports the invasion of the US. Now this? He’s over.”
Incorrect. The newspaper in Wausau, WI painted his quote about citizenship in include illegals. Walker was only referring to qualified LEGAL immigrants.
Blame Romney for being a conservative in the primaries then an Obama enabler in the campaign.
The other thing Walker did was support funding for a stadium with tax money. That should be a function of private sector financing.
Don’t bother with facts. This is FR; Where emotion, lack of logic and headline only reading dominates.
Maybe Gwenn Moore's felonious chil'run will slash his tires?
Whether we have too many qualified legal immigrants is another matter. My point was about quashing that disinformation floating around about Walker supporting citizenship for illegals.
There are no perfect candidates out there. Walker, on the other hand, is on balance, a strong conservative who has a rare quality among Repubs: the willingness to jam the left’s crap back into its face.
“Scott Walker is quite delusional.. and Walker would be (and is) weak..
Whats needed is well beyond Walkers grasp..”
Weak? This guy kicked the left’s ass three times in four years. Name someone more battle tested than Walker. Have you not seen what he’s done for WI??
I’m still amazed how many FReepers were so amped in 2012 by the deeply flawed Newt Gingrich, but the slightest downside to any other candidate is seen as the kiss of death.
So you’re regarding any flow of legal immigrants as part of the “invasion,” then. Sorry, I disagree. Though, I’d like this country to be far more selective in the legal immigrants it allows in.
I agree with you, which is why my campaign donation money is earmarked to Ted Cruz. When he announces he’s running that is.
Any flow of legal immigrants who are doing jobs US citizens can fill are part of the invasion.
