Did Brian Williams also exaggerate during his Hurricane Katrina reports?
The Daily Mail ^ | February 6, 2015 | David Mccormack

NBC News anchor Brian Williams' 2006 claim that he saw a dead body float past his hotel window during Hurricane Katrina is drawing fresh skepticism in the wake of his own admission on Wednesday that he lied about being aboard a helicopter that was hit by enemy fire during the Iraq war.

Despite a swift apology on his Nightly News program, Williams is at the center of a media firestorm after it emerged that his old war story that he has retold numerous times over the past 12 years has become increasingly exaggerated.

Williams was forced to apologize this week after claiming in a report on Friday that the chinook he was aboard in Iraq had been hit by enemy fire.....

.....In the wake of the scandal over William's war story apology, attention is now turning to comments he made about what exactly he witnessed in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.

'When you look out of your hotel room window in the French Quarter and watch a man float by face down, when you see bodies that you last saw in Banda Aceh, Indonesia and swore to yourself that you would never see in your country...I beat that storm. I was there before it arrived.

'I rode it out with people who later died in the Superdome,' he said in an interview in 2006, just a year after the hurricane.

According to the New Orleans Advocate, Williams claim isn't accurate as the French Quarter of the city – one of the highest parts of the city – was never flooded.

The Advocate has also taken Williams to task over another Katrina-related claim that he made in an interview last year with her (sic) predecessor Brokaw.....

Also reported as fake, reports made by CNN. Two videos. Strange at the very least.

Re: “Blame it on Bush”

Williams won a coveted Peabody Award for his Katrina reporting.

If the GOP had any serious leadership, we would demand that he return it.

Maybe Williams mind got confused again and he was talking about the man face down on his hotel bed.

"....To make matters worse there are also now reports that senior executives at NBC News, including legendary anchor Tom Brokaw who Williams replaced in 2004, knew the story was false.

‘Tom Brokaw and [former NBC News President] Steve Capus knew this was a false story for a long time and have been extremely uncomfortable with it,’ an insider told the New York Post.

____________________________________________________________________

If true, then Brokaw is as guilty as Williams.

I think the South Park episode “Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow” pretty much sums up sensationalist media. It was hilarious.

“The evening national news is going the way of the Edsel. It simply doesn’t work any longer.”

Hey! Don’t go disrespecting the Edsel! Look around and note the number of cars mimicking its “horse collar” grill. It was a car that was before its time! Plus, it got caught up in a recession :)

“....legendary anchor Tom Brokaw...”

Bwaaa-haa-ha! He’s a legend in his own mind! (Nowhere on the pages of history can one find a greater champion of justice. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. From out of the past come the thundering hoofbeats of the great horse Silver! The LONE Anchor LIES AGAIN!).

I learned something of use from watching the movie “Deadline USA”. There is a difference between a reporter and a journalist. A reporter gathers facts and presents them to the public while a journalist is the star of the story. How can they be a star if the story doesn’t happen to them? His editors may have had a hand in this.

By that standard, 3/4ths of MSNBC ought to be fired.

PMSNBC a needs to be shut down period. It is a fifth column for Marxism and Islamic take over.

Actually, my first thoughts on this was that upper management HAD to know about it shortly after Williams’ first publicized fake war story. The news crew wouldn’t have been able to keep their mouths shut within NBC.

This whole thing has been a cover up from the gitgo.

Shep Smith of Fox reported cannibalism in the Super Dome and didn’t get fired, so apparently the media can make up anything and get away with it.

Brian Williams will return his journalistic “award” for honest reporting on the same day as the New York Times will do it for Walter Duranty, This drunk won a Pulitzer for lying about the “paradise” in Russia; the Cheka plied him with women and booze and he lied, very effectively in NYT reporting, that there was no famine in Ukraine (8 million+ deliberately and openly starved to death by Stalin); and everyone was just so happy in the new socialist world (the gulags were not mentioned and the people in them not interviewed). The NY Times has never apologized; don’t expect NBC to either. The 1930s were best characterized as “a low, dishonest decade”, sounds like the current times.

Because:

its no longer unbiased
its propaganda
we’re tired of being lied to
the actual damage it causes from a president who uses it against The People
