Mr Chavez might be dead, but as one of Latin Americas most charismatic political performers, he is far from forgotten.
His placid features still stare out from billboards in Caracas, while Venezuelan television still plays his rambling speeches denouncing America, capitalism and the West.
He promised the people the riches of the revolution, and for a while he was able to deliver, thanks to his country being blessed with the worlds largest proven oil reserves.

“he magic realism of Hugo Chavezs”
Funny pun on a a popular genre from Latin America including Marquez and Isabel Allende.
Send every American University Professor to Venezuela to see how socialism really works.
Its like a bad telenovela.
You know, the ones with plots and twists that just make you look forward to the next episode.
That’s what Venezuela has become.
But they have universal healthcare!
EXCELLENT observation
Capitalism apparently is a healthful enterprise
I guess it’s time for them to have another revolution to reverse the last one.
They took over a Walgreens/CVS type chain and jailed the CEO and others, accusing them of not selling stuff. Ridiculous charges.
And every congress criminal plus agency heads, one way of course. Let them walk home and learn about border security from countries that enforce theirs. Maybe the survivors will change their tune.
Medical shortages coming here soon.
No medical shortage on the black market. You want to make sure you can see your doctor? Build a deck on his house. You get the lumber for the deck by going down to the government supply yard and giving the guy a case of vodka so he’ll look the other way while the boards disappear.
That’s how you roll in a socialist society.
Venezuela is another of the many countries that have tried socialism as a form of government, and it failed again.
What??? Socialism is turning another country into a starving hellhole???
Color me shocked.
Venezuela’s in such a drastic shape that only drastic, pro-freedom solutions will work, however harsh they may be.
Step 1: Eliminate all restrictions on firearms and other weapons. People will need them to protect themselves against the people who will inevitably riot as a result of the next steps, which all should be done as concurrently as possible.
Step 2: Eliminate all social spending and subsidies. If you’re not getting much money into the country, you cannot afford all the spending.
Step 3: Privatize damn near everything. This would include things we in the US would normally regard as public goods, such as roads, schools, and water systems.
Step 4: Eliminate all wage and price controls. Prices would “necessarily skyrocket”, due to the shortages of damned near everything, but you want to incentivize people to produce or import all kinds of goods. Futhermore, without the social spending, all those out-of-work Venezuelans will need jobs, even if the wages absolutely suck at first.
Step 5: Allow virtually unlimited foreign investment and free trade. Some know-how and goods will necessarily come from outside the country.
Step 6: Eliminate all taxes on income and property at the federal level. Fund what little remains of the federal government with a modest sales and service tax, of no more than 10 percent, but preferably much lower.
Step 7: Adopt constitutional amendments similar to our bill of rights.
8. I almost forgot: STOP DEVALUING THE BOLIVAR, FOR CHRISSAKE! Sound money is good.
Coming to a medical facility near you...
