Labor pushes 'union beers' at Super Bowl (Budweiser, Miller, Coors, Blue Moon, PBR, Shock Top)

Football fans will be discouraged from drinking “non-union” beers like Guinness and Heineken while they’re at Super Bowl parties.

During Sunday’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, labor groups are hoping to raise awareness about beer companies that are unionized and pay their employees good wages.

Labor 411’s list of approved beers for the Super Bowl includes companies like Stella Artois, which boasts strong union membership.

But Guinness, Heineken, Corona, Flying Dog, and many other beermakers did not make the list, said Robert Fulton, the editorial director of Labor 411.

"If you’re out making your choice between whether you want Stella or Heineken, for example, we would encourage Stella,” Fulton said.

The Super Bowl beer list includes more than 200 brews from around the country, such as Budweiser, Miller Light, Coors, Blue Moon, Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR), and Shock Top. Fulton said he is focusing on promoting these beers on game day.

And rest assured Patriots fans, the Boston-owned beer Sam Adams is on the list of approved "union beers."

But the group hopes union supporters think twice before sipping on a cold Guinness.

Sam Adams is NOT union. If I'm wrong, please post the site stating otherwise, but I cannot find any mention of Sam Adams being union. I LOVE Sam Adams. Put aside their corporate politics (they're Bostoners, what do you expect?), they make some amazing brews.

Yuengling gets the rest of my money for beers. Living in Florida, though, I love that we're surrounded by so many craft and microbrewers. Lots of non Union selection even if most of them prefer to brew IPAs, brown ales, porters, and barleywines. I'm a lager man myself.

Some bad beer on that list, no wonder they need Union protection.

A fellow I knew, a veteran of Navy Seabees, told me of how his squad (? term) took care of a problem of a fellow who would come rushing in from field exercises, grab a beer before everyone else, and greedily gulp it down. So they refrigerated a bottle of whiz one day, and you can guess the rest.

I think it was one of the Monty Python guys who said that drinking American beer was like making love in a canoe. It’s f*cking close to water. My own beer of choice is from the local, and non-union, Boulevard Brewing. I highly recommend them if you’re able to get them. Wheat, pale ale, Pilsner, Tank-7, love them all. And Monday is that magical day when Boulevard Chocolate Ale hits the stores.

Pro life people should make a list of beers where the owners are not crazy pro abortion people. I think Sam Adams and New Belgium have both caved.

I'm not much of a beer drinker...more of a gin enthusiast.

My son and one son-in-law seem to enjoy Blue Moon, but I doubt either one cares whether or not it was brewed by union folk.

Isn’t Coors still non-union?

That almost looks like a list of the most gawd-awful cheap beers in the land. Only cheapo’s I noticed missing were Pearl and National Bohemian.

For outstanding beer, try Paropramen or Pilsner Urquell. Both Czech beers made from the wonderful Saaz hops in Czechoslovakia. Hope you enjoy drinking them. I sure do.

GO BOSTON.

Look up Boston Beer Co., not Sam Adams.

Cincinnati brewery has at least 80 employees represented by collective bargaining, from three different unions.

Also, if anyone is going to go on a full on Anti-union boycott make sure you check to see if the teamsters are the distribution workers, which they probably are...

And stop buying anything delivered by UPS or FedEx.
Postal service is clearly verboten as well, so mail order is just about off the table from any source.

Don’t watch tv... lots of union labor making that happen.

I’m assuming a Hyundai or Kia is in the garage...

Oh, and they will likely need to start walking, just make sure there’s no rubber on the soles of the shoes, the petroleum industry, world wide, is filled with unions from drillers to refiners to long shoremen to teamsters...

...

I’m not a huge fan of unions. They have morphed from their useful place in the market to largely political organizations.

However, when people want to make big bold statements about not spending any of their hard earned money to support those evil union miscreants, I am left to believe that it is mostly grandstanding.

Anyone has the right to choose the companies and people with whom they will do business, and each may choose the reasons they will use in making those decisions. Avoiding unions is a choice one is free to make. I simply suggest those ranting loudly about such choices take a good hard look at the world around them...
.
.
If you like beer, pick the beer you like best, and enjoy. Keep life simple. I suggest we save the anger angst and activism for bigger issues.
