Nearly a year after three of her family members were murdered during a domestic dispute, a Virginia woman is fighting for more gun control.
Barbara Harringtons sister, nephew and mother were shot by her brother in law before he turned the gun on himself.
She was just so much fun to be around and she was just, she was my heart, Harrington told 8News reporter Mark Tenia.
In a desperate plea to change Virginias law, Harrington is sharing her story this week in hopes that violent criminals will not be able to get their hands on guns. Her brother-in-law, Kevin Palmer, murdered her sister, Kristin, nephew, Griffin, and mother, Nancy, last year, after a restraining order had been filed against him.
My mind is just filled with how much fear they must have had, how terrified they must have been, Harrington said.
Lawmakers are proposing a bill that would revoke the gun rights of people convicted of violent misdemeanors. Currently gun rights are only revoked if youre convicted of a felony. Harrington says her family asked police to take her brother-in-laws guns away, but was told they couldnt.

What’s a violent misdemeanor? That does not sound right.
Probably a plea bargained down charge on something involving violence.
It would be a good time to get rid of losing guns over non-violent “domestic violence” charges too, if you really want ot put things in proper context. Domestic violence can cover arguing, shouting, insults, hitting a wall, tossing keys out of a room, etc. Stuff that has nothing to do with actual GUN-related violence.
Yeah. It sounds bogus.
If the gun grabbers had their way, cops could take your guns away based on just about any accusation with no facts or due process.
“Whats a violent misdemeanor? That does not sound right.”
Posting an Obama joker poster.
Your question matches mine word for word. Basically, if it’s violent, why is it a misdemeanor? The article text did not elaborate on the perp’s prior “violent misdemeanor(s)”, just an existing restraining order.
there are literally 1000’s of gun laws already on the books- How many m ore laws does she think it will take? She should be fighting for MORE enforcement of the laws ALREADY o nthe books-
I did a quick web search and it looks like simple assault and battery without any aggravating circumstances is a class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia. So if I just haul off and punch you without robbing you or intending to maim or kill you it isn't a felony.
But them I'm not a lawyer and I haven't even spent a night at a Holiday Inn Express recently.
What about traffic tickets? IF YOU CANNOT CONTROL A CAR, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO HAVE A GUN!
damn straight! /s
Seems like relative control is more in order than gun control.
I am not without sympathy for her loss but would it be any better if they had been stabbed or bludgeoned?
while I’m sorry for her loss, someone needs to slap some sense into her...Seriously.
Lots of people have had family murdered, myself included, it doesn’t purchase you extra anything.
All gun control will do is cause more Murders of innocent people, Lady.
Oh, and be aware of the new Buzz word for "Gun Control".
It's now being called "Gun Safety".......
Bearing arms is not a right which is within the power of the state to “revoke” — the state can only infringe on it.
F her.
How does one control guns, except with other guns?
