What’s a violent misdemeanor? That does not sound right.
Probably a plea bargained down charge on something involving violence.
It would be a good time to get rid of losing guns over non-violent “domestic violence” charges too, if you really want ot put things in proper context. Domestic violence can cover arguing, shouting, insults, hitting a wall, tossing keys out of a room, etc. Stuff that has nothing to do with actual GUN-related violence.
Yeah. It sounds bogus.
If the gun grabbers had their way, cops could take your guns away based on just about any accusation with no facts or due process.

Posting an Obama joker poster.
Your question matches mine word for word. Basically, if it’s violent, why is it a misdemeanor? The article text did not elaborate on the perp’s prior “violent misdemeanor(s)”, just an existing restraining order.
I did a quick web search and it looks like simple assault and battery without any aggravating circumstances is a class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia. So if I just haul off and punch you without robbing you or intending to maim or kill you it isn't a felony.
But them I'm not a lawyer and I haven't even spent a night at a Holiday Inn Express recently.
