Longview police have released a video of an officer-involved shooting in which a teenager was killed. Longview Police Department Chief Don Dingler addressed the incident during a conference Wednesday before the department aired the video.

It appeared to me that he knocked her out twice, while he had her pinned on the bench. Then, he walks beside her with his hand on her shoulder and suddenly slams her to the ground. None of these actions make any sense.
The cop-bashing only seriously started after the BHØ election....

Seems that way to me, as well.
Let me know if you do. I still can't get the video at KTLA to work.
Dang, I don’t want to be insensitive here, but did he shoot her with a black powder pistol or what? That some smoke cloud.
For whatever reason, the video on the original site at the top of the thread will not play. it appears unresponsive.
I did read this at the site though, and if this is accurate, it does shed some light on the content of the video:
“Dingler said 17-year-old Kristiana Coignard entered the lobby of the department at 6:28 p.m. on Jan. 22 and used the after hours phone in the lobby that rings through to the Public Safety Communications Department. Dingler said she refused to tell the communications operator her problem over the phone.
When Officer Glenn Derr arrived, Coignard indicated she had a gun, which resulted in a physical confrontation. Video shows Derr struggling with Coignard and attempting to restrain her.
LPD Public Information Officer Kristie Brian said that at the start of the struggle, the officer was unaware Coignard had a knife and still believed she had a gun. During the struggle, Brian said it became evident she was armed with a large butcher knife that she attempted to pull from her waistband.
Derr was able to put distance between himself and Coignard. At that time, officer Gene Duffie entered the lobby and drew his stun gun. Officer Grace Bagley entered the lobby immediately after Duffie. Coignard charged Derr with the knife and Duffie fired his stun gun.
Police said the use of the stun gun was not effective and video shows Coignard as she attempted to charge one of the officers. Bagley fired her weapon twice and Derr discharged his weapon three times.”
A couple of things I find worthy of note in there. She told the original officer she had a gun...Good God, what was this girl thinking ;(
This must have been a very troubled young lady.
If that is the case, then I can sort of understand the officer’s behavior.
Second thing is the middle officer I think did have a stun gun, and he did fire it at the charge, and it proved ineffective. I think too many people have a misconception of the effectiveness of non-lethal force most especially when used in an attempt to prevent criminal use of lethal force.
It’s a HUGE risk to do this. Nonetheless, I see that they tried to do it.
But if that excerpt is accurate, I would say that it is clear that she came to the station that night with the intent of dying by forcing a cop to kill her.
I would still, going on this article and video, not hold these men and woman criminally responsible for her death, but I would thoroughly investigate all procedures followed or not followed up until such time as she was shot.
She didn't "charge the three officers". That's disinformation. I'll swear the second guy had his right hand on her arm, because he was hand-talking to her with his left hand. Very odd body language for the situation.
I also cannot get it to work.
But the printed story at that site is eye opening.
She apparently told the officer she had a gun...and in fact did have a large butcher knife.
My position on this matter has been pro-police from the start, as well as pro-self defense, and it still is, but man, this girl seems like she was really messed up in the head :(
Why on Earth did she do this, for Christ’s sake, I find my self distressed about this for all parties involved now.
The official police story is that she told the original officer she had a gun.
I heard her coughing, shuffling around, and I heard the noises from the courtesy phone, but suddenly, I couldn't hear what the first guy said to her, or what she said to the first guy.
What, an official story from one side is "eye opening"?
If the missing audio shows up and proves me wrong, I'll own up that I'm wrong.
Till then, I'm a sceptic.
She told the guy she had a gun, and was further armed with a large knife according to the website.
The article at the site is very damning to her if all that stuff is accurate. It would seem that she did in fact create this situation entirely.
You know my position on this, I’m with the cops on this one, she caused this based upon her actions very sadly.
After reading further details on this though, I feel for her. She was obviously a very troubled young lady.
I wish to High Heaven she had not done this. I really do.
I hope she is in a better place now.
Well, I will say that I am going on the assumption that the police are telling the truth.
It is an assumption on my part, and could later prove to be wrong, so time will tell on that.
I do tend to give officers the benefit of the doubt, I believe that they are better men than me, and I have respect for them.
But I am also aware that there are bad apples out there, so hopefully that is not the case here.
The police said that she told the guy she had a gun, and was further armed with a large knife.
What part of "this is the story from the guys that killed her" don't you get?
I'm not a traffic-court judge, so I don't go on the assumption that the police are telling the truth. :)
Well, most of them may be twice the man that you are - hence the arrest of Captain Ahab for loitering and stalking.
Prayers for 'em all.
Another incident involving Longview, TX police (dead after traffic stop for expired tags in Oct.): http://www.news-journal.com/news/police/autopsy-longview-man-killed-by-officer-shot-four-times/article_4a80376a-10be-546d-bd70-4333e3aad845.html
Sure appears to me that she was troubled about getting thrown around like a sack of potatoes.
Looks like she only wanted a piece of "Officer Friendly #1".
She had a history of mental illness. She had tried twice to commit suicide.
Someone got it.
Negligence, recklessness, gross negligence, criminal negligence, malfeasance etc, come to mind.
Appears the suspect was subdued multiple times, yet was never cuffed/secured. That's simple standard procedure. And then he gets off her allowing her to get up again. Big no no.
If common sense procedures were followed, this would have never escalated or resulted in her death. She would be alive today.
This cop screwed up real bad and likely will be out of a career.
Big time lawsuit to follow...
What part of “I believe them, and I have no reason to not believe them” do you not get?
She is the criminal in this scenario, why do you believe her to be virtuous?
