WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama is boosting protection of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and will ask Congress to designate more than 12 million acres as a wilderness area, including its potentially oil-rich Coastal Plain.
The designation would seal off the area in Alaska's northeast corner from oil exploration and give it the highest degree of federal protection available to public lands. Obama and the Interior Department announced the effort Sunday.

So the next president undoes the designation. If it can be accomplished by a Presidential declaration, it can be undone by one.
If one President will be bold enough to do this, it will end this silly democrat game.
But it sounds as though he is asking Congress. We are safe, we have Boehner watching our back.
Oh boy, another genius plan from Klownie the Kenyan. is it 2016 yet?
So let it be done.
Yep, I doubt this has a chance to get through Congress but that doesn’t stop the turkey from trying.
He'll just Executive Order it.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he tries.
In case anyone was wondering — this sort of thing is why there’s an Alaska Independence Party.
In return, congress should return the vast majority of Alaska to the Alaskans, and Nevada to the Nevadans, and Utah to the Utahans, etc. It never should have been taken by the federal government, and must be returned to its lawful and constitutional owners.
LOL! Yup. That’s real comforting. Boehner has out 6. Yeah. Right.
OUR not OUT. Doh. FFS. Fat Finger Syndrome.
They could care less about the environment up there, otherwise they would be helping Japan with its three melted down reactors. Two of which the US built. This all about killing humans. They do not want us to have the energy available to survive the next mini ice age that many scientist are predicting.
I should add that Utah has asked for its federally taken lands back, and while Obama would veto any law that did so, congress should pass a *resolution* directed at the federal courts, that if a state sues the federal government for return of their lands, that the federal courts should decide these lawsuits in the favor of the states.
It bypasses Obama entirely. Just like he bypassed congress and the courts. So turnabout is fair play.
How many times have we heard Al Gore and his henchmen talk of the “pristine” Arctic National Wildlife Refuge? You know they all get the same talking points because how often do you hear someone use the word “pristine” in everyday conversation?
Listening to them you would swear that ANWR gets as many visitors as Yellowstone. In reality ANWR is in a remote part of Alaska which is very difficult to get to.
This is where we need adults in charge. We need adults to decide whether we can search for oil on a part of an Arctic wasteland, and weigh preservation of that environment, vs. The desire to develop energy resources for the greater good. Right now we have overgrown teenage girls in charge, who let their emotional knee jerk reactions about polar bears cloud judgements about how to proceed with energy development.
Kinda creeped me out too.

The ‘game’ is above the parties and the next president won’t undo it whoever it is. You can look at the DAVOS gang and their minions in the UN plus all the NGOs they fund to find who controls who and we don’t have a damned thing to say about it.
Agreed, and all the western states should follow Utah’s lead in getting federal land returned.
