A weekly call to prayer for Muslims will be heard at Duke University starting Friday, school officials said.
Members of the Duke Muslim Students Association will chant the call, known as adhan or azan, from the Duke Chapel bell tower each Friday at 1 p.m. The call to prayer will last about three minutes and be moderately amplified, officials said in a statement Tuesday.
The adhan is the call to prayer that brings Muslims back to their purpose in life, which is to worship God, and serves as a reminder to serve our brothers and sisters in humanity, said Imam Adeel Zeb, Muslim chaplain at Duke. The collective Muslim community is truly grateful and excited about Dukes intentionality toward religious and cultural diversity.

I understand what you're getting at. However, when I was a non-Muslim teaching at a Turkish university, I figured I could pray, too, when the call came. I figured my prayers were a lot more powerful than those of the Muslims.

Dookie students do a wonderful job of coordinating crowd activities at basketball games. I remember a “JR can’t read” crowd heckle of J.R. Reid of UNC back in the day.
Conservative leader needs to do the same exercise for dorm stereos at the start of the call. “Devil Went Down to Georgia” lasts about 3 minutes, has religious overtone, and that fiddle solo would blend nicely with the wailing, especially when different participants aren’t exactly synched. “Moderately amplified”, of course.
People outside of dorms in vehicles just need horn malfunction for about 3 minutes. Maybe while blaring coordinated song from car system.
On foot on campus? Air horn. Maybe some enterprising lad there can sell a few dozen on the day of.
This would be an adequate level of fighting back. Bet it wouldn’t happen again or grow to other campii if the reaction is recognized.
One of my sons is a Duke basketball fanatic (infact he looks like he could be JJ Redick’s younger bro). He greatly admires Coach K, and has been a BlueDevil fan since kindergarten (pee wee bball). Duke didn’t have his chosen major, so he didn’t apply (we think he was afraid of NOT being accepted even tho he had a 4.1 HS gpa.
My son is stunned that Duke would permit this...”wonder what Coach K really thinks of this.”
