The senator is on-record denying climate change and has regularly pushed for government cutbacks.
As expected, after a major GOP win in the last Congressional election, there's been a shuffling in the ranks of committees, including those that oversee science in government. Next up to chair the Senate subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, and thus oversee NASA in the 114th Congress: Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Cruz, a republican, has said it is "critical that the United States ensure its continued leadership in space," but his stances on established science will no doubt be concerning: he's gone on record, for example, denying that climate change exists. Cruz has also promoted himself as a Tea Party spending hawk, attempting to slash budgets across the government.
Whether the appointment, which will be confirmed later this month, results in that happening to NASA remains to be seen. Cruz serves a constituency in Texas, home of many NASA employees who would likewise hope to see America's "continued leadership in space." But on that front, there is some history. In July 2013, Cruz attempted to amend a spending authorization bill so that it reduced the amount of funding for NASA, only to have the amendment shot down along party lines.
Cruz will also have some new GOP company in other subcommittees for the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Marco Rubio, a Florida republican, will chair the subcommittee overseeing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Little Colin wet his pants, I believe.
Is that supposed to be a ‘man’?
Or is it just a biological male?
His name is ‘Colin Lecher’? Seriously?
Mitch planning on shooting Cruz up via Soyuz to get him out of his hair??
Little Colin all wee weed up?
Ooooh, Colin's cute...
It would seem little Colin Lecher, if that’s his real name, needs to pull his head out of his colon.
Sounds like some adults are finally taking charge.
It’s not that I don’t feel Cruz should definitely be in that position, but I’d prefer an actual astronaut, as they would defend it as well as the budget, and completely stop the BS “Muslim outreach” programs, get them back on track, and be totally unmoving as far as the advancement of space technologies is concerned.
LOL! Sadly, there are no orbiters to carry her aloft. Her cranium could be filled with helium and at least get her into or close to space. Not that she isn’t already spaced.
“...Cruz, a republican, .... his stances on established science will no doubt be concerning: he’s gone on record, for example, denying that climate change exists...”

Bull crap, Cruz has not denied that climate change exists ... he’s has stated, CORRECTLY, that climate change is NOT MAN MADE. And despite the author’s (Pajama Boy look-alike Colin Lecher) assertion in the article man made climate change is anything but “established science”.
TED CRUZ 2016 -— There’s a reason that the progressive establishment hates and fears him...he can win.
Even FNC isn’t speaking Cruz’ name anymore.
They learned from Cantor who spent millions giving Dave Brat name rec he never could have bought.
The less I hear Ted’s name, the higher I know he’s ascending in the internal polls.
Looks like Leonard from Big Bang Theory
Probably drinks beer with a straw. Loser.
NASA needs to hitchhike a ride with the Russians every time it wants to send someone into space and it has "refocused" its mission to making nice with the Mohammedans? In 2015 NASA has 4.9 times the budget it had in 1969 when it landed the first humans on the moon?
Ted Cruz is exactly the kind of Senator I'd want to be overseeing a boodoggle like NASA!
He seems more the “whatever”-tini or cosmopolitan type. He’s too “hip” for beer...
author is lying, noone is denying climate change exist
Boehner must have nothing to do with this selection. I would’ve expected Boehner wanting to punish Ted administratively for drawing so much attention to himself at the Speaker’s expense. Or he may be too afraid to play that game with Ted, who would not suffer in silence.
