'A Muslim shop worker has told how he saved "15 to 20" customers at a Jewish supermarket attacked by terrorist Amedy Coulibaly.
Lassana Bathily was out of the gunman's view when he stormed the Hypercacher store in eastern Paris with guns blazing.
A number of shoppers fled down stairs at the back of the shop, where they ran into the 24-year-old assistant, who thought the group could hide in a cold storage room in the basement.
He has been credited with helping the hostages - including a father and his young son - to survive the siege, in which four were killed by Coulibaly.
He told France's BFMTV: "I went to the freezer, I opened the door and a number of people came in with me.
"I turned off the light and the freezer. I told them to keep calm, to not make any noise."
After managing to escape through a goods lift and an emergency exit, Mr Bathily was initially suspected of being a terrorist accomplice.
He said: "I ran out, I saw police officers who told me 'Lie down! Hands on your head!'"
After explaining who he was, Mr Bathily was able to provide officers with useful information about the layout of the store and where customers had been hiding.
After police stormed the building and killed Coulibaly, some of the freed hostages thanked him and shook his hand, he said.
Explaining why he acted as he did, Mr Bathily said: "We are all brothers. It's not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims.
"We were all in the same boat, we had to help each other to get out of the crisis."'

Mr. Bathily is obviously a decent guy and one of those elusive moderate Muslims. Kudos to him.
“We are all brothers. It’s not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims.
“We were all in the same boat, we had to help each other to get out of the crisis.”’
Very rare to hear a moslem say this - especially one indoctrinated in the Middle East say that...
The locals in Iraq made “nicey nice” to me as well - I gave them medicine, food, security - but then again - my teams and I were heavily armed at the time...If I returned this very day, I guarantee I would be slaughtered within minutes!
As much as I despise Mohammed for the murdering, thieving, raping, slave trading genocidal savage that he was, I remember an interesting story from the Laura Ingals Wilder books.
I think this is a true story.
Laura’s husband, Almonzo Wilder, was given that name, because of a Mohammedan, Al Monsour, who saved the life of one of his ancestors who was wounded in a battle with the Mohammedans. As a result, Wilder’s ancestor promised Al Monsour that there would be a man named after him throughout the generations of Wilder’s descendants. The name was contracted to Almonzo.
I believe he is of Malian (W. African) descent
The proverbial one in a million. However, despite what the Left will say, the exclusion doesn’t prove the rule. Most Muslims support the “radical” cause. It’s nice that this guy did the right thing.
That’s such a cool story. I love the “Little House” books, and “Farmer Boy” although technically not part of the “Little House” series, is definitely one of my favorites.
There were good Germans, too.
So, not an arab
He’s reported to be from the same country as the terrorist in the store
He is brave to have his name released to the media for obvious reasons.
The terrorists in Paris weren’t Arab either. They were African.
Beautiful! My husband has worked with many Muslims over the years, while a chemical engineer. They have all been very nice family men. None of them want this violence and killing. Just like 99.99% of blacks in Ferguson don’t loot, shoot, steal or kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dietrich Bonhoeffer....
My first thought on seeing his name was concern for his safety among his coreligionists in France.
Lassana Bathily should have asked his name not be mentioned in the papers because of retaliation fears which I think are very justified in his case.
Irresponsible reporting to include his name in this case imho.
“We are all brothers. Its not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims.
We were all in the same boat, we had to help each other to get out of the crisis.
Very rare to hear a moslem say this...”
_____________
Very rare to hear ANYONE say this sort of thing in 2015, and even better to act heroically to save people he probably didn’t even know. This man is not only a laudable Muslim, he’s a great man.
I wonder if this brave man will end up with a Fatwa on his head, for saving the Infidel.
I have known Lebanese Christians with the surname Mansour or Monsour.
The Moorish occupation of Spain has many stories of acts of chivalry between Muslims & Christians.
Why would a Muslim be at a Jewish bake shop? I smell a government PR rat.
