U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is reporting for jury duty in Houston.
The Texas Republican reported in for his civic duty this morning at the Jury Assembly building in downtown Houston. He says this is the first time he's ever been summoned.
"I'd actually never been called to jury duty before," Cruz said. "I got the summons and I was happy to come down and do my civic duty."
Cruz encourages others to take the time in the future to attend jury duty.
"I would certainly encourage everyone else when you get a jury summons to come down to participate," Cruz said. "It's like voting. It's part of the responsibilities of the citizen."
Cruz was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012.

I used to work for lawyers and was told that anyone in the legal profession — attorneys, secretaries, paralegals, etc. — will most likely not be selected for a jury. Still have to report for duty though.
I was called for duty once — right after I was discharged from the hospital and in no condition to serve, so I was excused. Now that I’m retired and in better health, they won’t call me. SIGH!
Go Ted Cruz!
Wow, I was thinking the same thing.
I, however, would love to be on a jury where there is such a knowledgeable person in the group.
I got called several times, but I never got placed on a jury .. bummer.
That maybe true.
At least he showed up.
Agree, I’ve testified in product liability lawsuits as an expert witness and watched the voir dire process up close. Avoid left brain jurors at all cost!
Well as Woody Allen once said, 80% of success is just showing up!
I don’t see bumper stickers anywhere near as often as I used to, say twenty years ago. I still see a few stubborn Obama/Biden stickers on for those who are DWPB, or Driving While Politically Blinded.
I just hope it is not one of those long drawn out trials where the jury is sequestered, in which case I would consider the whole thing a set up.
Not to worry. I’d say the odds are 100:1 that he is punted by the defense.
Age appropriate and everything! ;-)
You never know. It’s curious he didn’t get turned away at the door when the lawyer asks for your name. I always do, must have that ‘hang ‘em high’ look about me.
Now he has to go through the interview phase, looks like?
I”m sure they’d all show for Jury Duty, I remember Giuliani being called when he was mayor.
Quite frankly that was stupid and inappropriate, the Mayor of a city really is dq’d from being on a jury in it.
Just tell them you’re Canadian!
He had an out, too.
Being an elected official is an official grounds to self defer in Texas.
I mean, ewwww, who’d want to date her?
Yeah, I know what you mean. I just wish she’d stop calling me all the time. It gets creepy after a while.
The Gadsden Flag....ProLife ......anti Obama ......you can definitely find those in my little burg
