WASHINGTON President Obama on Thursday proposed making community college free "for everybody who is willing to work for it." In a video posted on Facebook, the president previewed his plan, which will be formally announced during a trip to Tennessee Friday. "It's not for kids," Obama said. "We also have to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages, better benefits."
The proposal drew an immediate critical response from House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, who said, "with no details or information on the cost, this seems more like a talking point than a plan."

That's what jumped out at me. Don't expect Boehner to reject this.
Nice of Obama to be so generous with other people’s money.
If that DOESN'T happen, I'd be surprised. It's what they're already doing in city government school/prisons. Why would their behavior change?
Free huh? Then “who” pray tell is going to pay for it?
Let me guess....US TAXPAYERS!
“Free”? To whom?
It is remarkable how many of the initiatives of the Obama administration are portrayed in these decade old dramas written by Arron Sorkin and produced by the likes of rabid leftists such as Lawrence O'Donnell. The aims never change, the tactics are ever-changing, the strategy never changes, the venue is always a matter of their choice, reality never changes but history is ever rewritten.
The stories are remarkably well-written from a dramatic point of view. History is also rewritten and cleverly so to the extent that the average viewer who was not well-educated will simply accept brazen lies as the story of America.
There was a program in two parts entitled, "20 hours in America" in which the protagonists come to the conclusion that America must grant tax deduction for college tuition. Today we see Obama offering free tuition at community colleges as a slight change in tactics but one that is consistent with overall strategy to institutionalize higher education in the hands of the left at the expense of the taxpayer (or more precisely at the expense of the taxpayer's children and grandchildren who will be stuck with the bill).
The same preview of Obama's positions on the environment are to be seen in episodes of The West Wing. Indeed, virtually everything that we see being played out on the national stage today can be seen in the seven years of The West Wing.
For the left the game is always changing that is, the rules of the game, but the endgame never changes.
Most the CC's here are set up on a two year program. In two years you have a degree minus the big school PC. But yes it will indeed water it down.
Oh and he's also coming to my county today to likely take credit for jobs and manufacturing growth here he did not create. The county officials and state lawmakers mainly GOP recruited the companies & jobs via offering a Right to Work state minus Union, no state income tax, a good work ethic of the communities, and we once offered industries and residents reasonable cost electrical power before Obama took office and mandated an end to coal.
I'm glad I don't have to go to town today. I can imagine what the traffic will be like :>{
I have a couple of things to say on this subject:
#1: I understand the med school program with a COMMITMENT to working for several years in an area that needed medical services. This actually had merit.
#2. I don't think he's talking about specific majors or
a commitment to work. Free college for “women's studies”?
free degree in “1970’s Television and it's impact on the Rain Forest”? or some other asinine waste of time. Having
a degree whether AA/AS or BA/BS or even a Masters/PhD doesn't equate to employment if that degree is in a useless
major!!
#3 Nothing is FREE - somebody (i.e. you and me) will be paying. Frankly I'm still paying off my children's state
college degrees. And, yes, for the record, their degrees
were actually useful. Son - Biology/chemistry employed!
Daughter - early childhood education - employed at a private
school (no public unions for her!)
Nor our two RINO Big Government U.S. Senators either. We have the so called Mr Education Lamoderate Alexander as a senator and Bob Porker. The state General Assembly may well stop it though.
You mean socialist indoctrination, don’t you?
Don’t forget his promise, “If you like your college you can keep it and everybody’s tuition will decrease by $2500.00”
In my day, we also had a Government program for free college tuition.
It was called the G.I Bill!
The economic escalator is broken. Graduates at any level have a tough time getting a job that moves their career forward. So instead of fixing the escalator by lifting the burden on small businesses, the elites throw cake (free health care, free college) at those stuck on the lower steps. The challenge to conservatives is to get this socialist paradigm unstuck exactly at a time when more and more people stuck at the lower levels are more dependent on the freebies.
This is not going to be easy.
Great idea! Now President Obama, how do you propose to pay for it?
A better choice would be to have scholarships with a buy-in. So say that if you get the right scores to go to college, you need to pay it off by putting in community time for x number of years.
i’m supposed to pay for free college for everyone now??
who paid for my college?
oh yea... *I* did.
where’s my reparations?
The only thing he can do effectively is give away money, hell anybody can do that.
Need a like button for what you said.
Here’s a clue.....79% of the working class is white. 12% black 9% other
“Great idea! Now President Obama, how do you propose to pay for it?”
He’s got a pen & phone - it is “magic”
Dude hasn’t had to pay for anything for years, so he doesn’t understand the concept of it. Also, he’s never really worked, so he has no idea what that means either.
