The exodus of Jewish Americans from the Democratic Party continued in 2014, with only 61 percent of Jews identifying with the party last year, according to a new poll released Tuesday by Gallup.
Sixty-one percent may seem high, compared to 31 percent of the general public who identify as Democrats, but thats a 3 percent dip from 2013, and a huge drop from 2008, when 71 percent of Jews said they were Democrats.
The Democrats loss is the GOPs gain. In 2014, 29 percent of Jews said they were Republicans, up 1 percent from 2013 and a 7 percent rise from 2008.
The changing attitudes of Jews dont simply reflect shifts in the American electorate since 2008, as their shift towards Republicans and away from Democrats substantially outpaces any movements by America at large.

Unfortunately, the biggest supporters of Israel in the US seem to be Conservative Protestant Christians. This is not to say that CPCs should not support Israel but they shouldn't be out there all alone.

Excellent point. Even more when you factor in the other NE states.
It isn’t tradition, it is because they vote for the liberal politics that they prefer.
Its about time.
Rand Paul is trying to get back support from Jewish voters, but never trust a Paul.
“I am also completely unable to understand the historic animosity against the Jews.”
The whole Jesus thing might have something to do with it. Plus
No it isn't, people don't vote for a party for a 150 years because they don't pick up a newspaper or look at that election's issues, especially Jews, they are not some mountain folk of 1870 living without information on exactly what they are voting for.
Why not? Since the GOP is now a socialist party, they have an alternative.
Hopefully, this will continue.
I have always held the Jews in highest regard except for one very large concern...their seemingly idiotic propensity to circle the flame of liberalism.
With obvious results.
To be serious for a bit, I am Israeli by birth, American by happy accident.
Dual citizens like myself and/or ex-pats in Israel vote 85%+ Republican — so much so that Florida routinely tries to keep the absentee votes from Israel out.
The reasons are multiple:
Tradition is one.
But mainly I think American Jewish people are urban Yankees. And Urban Yankees vote Democrat.
There are other factors:
strident Christianity is bothersome to Reform Jews (and the Huckabee types make me want to puke),
the Republican party used to be very anti-Semitic and not particularly fond of Israel. “White Shoe Republicans” like James Baker, for example.
And Jews are descendants of an enslaved and persecuted people. We tend to identify with those in similar situations -— blacks of the last century, for example.
The concept of “tikum olam” makes Jewish people suckers for big ideas
And then there is history: the “Right” in Europe and especially Russia/Ukraine was violently anti-Semitic. The Communists, while in reality just as bad, promised good things and the end of persecution. Those fears came with immigrants over the ocean.
++++++++++++++
But, yes, I see the tide shifting significantly. Orthodox Jewish people are overwhelmingly Republican. Conservative majority Republican. The ideas will trickle down and into Jewish culture.
“Were even in your country clubs and marrying white women.”
Heh!
Short and sweet.
Love it.
best news I’ve heard all day
It’s tough to vote for a party where anti-semitism is spawned and supported. Especially when Obama has brought to office everything Rev Wright taught him.
Speak as a full-blooded Jew, I can say that Jews may leave the Democrats, but they will bring their leftist worldview with them to the Republican Party, making it even more liberal.
The anti-jewish animosity appears to predate that. "Plus" what?
Nice car
But I don’t buy it
If Jews in media and Hollywood flipped
It would turn the tide in the culture war
I just don’t see it
The scores of libtard Jews I known in 57 years...some of the felines I was actually in relationship with
Most when pushed....simply do not like adherent Christianity
More than anything....Israelis less so than US Jews
Their religion is to change world...loosely Tikkun Olam
You’d have to fundamentally change Jewish culture top to bottom
But God bless you for trying
it is amazing !!!
that a people
who’ve contributed SO MUCH
to our history, to our Church(es), to our morals, to our traditions, to our sciences, to our medicine and health, to our arts, to our literature and cinema, to our technology...
can have so many IGNORAMOUSES
when it comes to simply recognizing
when a politician or political party
is your enemy.
amazing just how STUPID such incredibly smart and creative people can be, when it comes to their own survival
Sooo,
Instead of what 88 percent of American Jews voting Dem,
86 percent will?
Sorry, I don't believe it.
A significant majority of American Jews despise white American Conservatives, even though we are the least anti-Semitic - and most pro-Israel - political group in the world.
And that’s a good thing. Some funny ones I’ll have to check later.
