Newly elected Representative Alex Mooney (R-WV) demonstrated with his vote in favor of re-electing John Boehner as Speaker of the House on Tuesday that he is a master of the political art of word-parsing and rationalization, especially when it comes to advancing his own ambitions.
On December 9, 2013, when the opportunistic former Chairman of the Maryland GOP was considered a long-shot candidacy to win the Republican primary in West Virginias 2nd Congressional District, he signed the Madison Project Candidate Pledge. Part of that says: I pledge to vote against the current leadership when the first reasonable opportunity presents itself. (House)
We obviously view John Boehner as current leadership and Tuesdays vote was a reasonable opportunity, Drew Ryun of the Madison Project tells Breitbart News on Thursday.
But Mooney is demonstrating a Clintonesque handling of the English language. His spokesperson tells Breitbart News, [t]he pledge said he would vote against leadership when a reasonable opportunity presents itself. It is the Congressmans belief since there was no alternative candidate with a reasonable chance of success this was not a reasonable opportunity.

Jellyfishes.
John Boner (or his staffers) had little canned replies ready for these newbies to repeat when questioned why they lied and voted for Boehner anyway.
“If they didn’t vote for Boehner, then they might as well have voted for Nancy Pelosi.”
That "R" after his name is for rat-fink.
Stop signing these pledges. It is dumb thing to do. You have no idea what is reality until you are in office. It is easy to say what you think you would do until you are hit in the head with reality.
In the words of Robert KKK Byrd..
Next cycle..
He’s Gone GONE gone.
Yep, I’m seeing the words “no viable alternative” a whole lot in these lame excuses.
Since this fiasco Ive been contacting the NRCC with nice little notes!
I would hope all FReepers can add to their misery!
“former Chairman of the Maryland GOP “
No really. We can reform the GOP. Besides, they are DIFFERENT at the state level. We just need to keep our powder dry because this is the wrong fight at the wrong time!
People stupid enough to vote GOP into power deserve everything befalling them. There is nothing, no way this party can possibly make their intent any clearer.
Another one term congressman.
Wow! How easily you abandon Freshmen.
You have no idea why he broke his pledge .. so hyper-ventilating and calling him names seems to be the only solution.
Really ..??
He did explain why he didn’t join the rebellion .. but evidently nobody has paid attention. Typical.
His comment made sense to me .. “the rebellion” was not organized (which was true) .. and many of the people not wanting to vote for Boehner .. were NOT PEOPLE HE KNEW .. AND THEREFORE, HE WAS NOT SURE HE COULD TRUST THEM. If you don’t know the persons you’re supposed to be voting with .. they can change their vote at the last minute, and you can be left holding the bag; isolated and bleeding in the corner.
That is no way to start your time in the House.
Besides, the public has been calling and calling and driving the GOPe nuts. Great! So, it seems the two men who were removed from their previous assignments .. are going to be re-considered.
It would be a better use of your time and energy to just call Boehner’s phone: 202-225-0600 .. and let his office know that we’re not happy about his treatment of new representatives .. and he better turn off the “revenge” button before the public gets really mad.
His constituents need to burn up his phone lines and tell him you will NOT forget this and that he will be “Primaried” and “Cantorized” in 2016. Make life hell for him. I publicly excoriated my newly elected Congressman, Brian Babin (R-TX) on Twitter.
The GOP is incapable of being reformed. This is proof.
"I'd never lie to you! Never! Just elect me, and you'll see!"
WHEN will we have an “ignore” button on the forum? I am begging here.
just call Boehners phone: 202-225-0600 .. and let his office know that were not happy about his treatment of new representatives

Yes, that what should be done and explain that it is because they are all a bunch of little boys with no balls that we should have never sent to Washington in the first place because they just are not strong enough to not bend over and let John Boehner and the D.C. insiders have their way with them.
The sad part is that people will still send them to DC and their state offices. Then come here complaining about “Stupid liberals” and “DUmmies” without the slightest hint of irony. My personal fave is the GOP backers that post the “Blacks on the Dem plantation” comments though.
All this comes down to doing it to ourselves. The republicans are what they are because we empowered them. Had we not sent unprincipled POS’s to DC, they would have never achieved critical mass of evil and ignited into full blown liberalism.
Sure Patomic fever. I get that. But it is the height of TeH StUpIdZ to start out with someone already and knowingly liberal to begin with.
Ignoring reality is what got us here to begin with. If you have a problem with what I typed, tell me what was incorrect about it.
Another fraud is exposed.
