A policewoman has died and a civil employee is seriously hurt after a shooting in the south of Paris on Thursday morning, France24 reports.
The two people were shot near a metro station in Montrogue by a man wearing a bulletproof vest, the AFP reports. He was carrying an automatic rifle.
So far, no connection has been established between Thursday morning's shooting and Wednesday's terrorist attack at the Paris office of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, which left 12 dead.
France's interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the suspect was on the run, according to the AFP. It was earlier reported that the gunman had been detained.
There are also reports of an explosion at a kebab shop near a mosque in Lyon, but a link hasn't been established to Wednesday's Paris assault there either.

The French have three main police forces. The national (two of them) are armed, often more heavily than US cops.
Most of the municipal cops, which is probably what this lady is, are not armed. That may change.
Should note that being armed does not keep you from being shot. The cops killed in NYC were armed.

Consider the American response to the Ft. Hood shooting (2009). Consider the Spanish response to the Madrid train bombing (2004). Consider the British response to the London subway bombings (2005).

My point: The French are no different than the Americans, Spanish, or British in this regard.
Before the French Sûreté was changed to the National Police, it had a spendid history, especially in the counter intell area IMO. It would not be impossible to get them rolling again assuming they are not active now. Interestingly, Surete was the model for Scotland Yard and later the US FBI from what I gather.
Forsyth in his Day of Jackal book portrays the French Security Forces as top notch at the time of the story, (the 70’s?) FWIW.
It could also be argued that they haven't been worth a pizza chit since they guillotined everyone with any gumption or leadership ability in the Revolution.

No kidding! And when I flip the mirror the muslims & talk about their “Qadr” (destiny)... “Allah knows best” or “Allah’s will” in action? Meaning, allah does not know what he creates before be created?
CNN just reported that officials state that this is terrorism and the suspect was dressed in the same black clothing and is still on the loose. Not sure if it is connected to the cartoon shootings or is a separate attack.
Actually the Spaniards elected the surrender to islam candidate three days after the Madrid bombing.

Just like the Boston bombing ridiculous scramble. Not all this cop deployment here and there is going to ever protect the french from attacks on their free speech. These attacks have been going on for years with school kids getting beat up or raped by muskim gangs for years, but nothing is ever done.
This is total hypocrisy from the West still intent on attacking Israel for doing what it needs to do against terror or the second amendment in America.
