Indonesia said Wednesday it had found the tail of AirAsia Flight 8501, potentially marking a major step towards locating the plane's black boxes and helping shed light on what caused it to crash into the sea ten days ago.
Search and rescue agency chief Bambang Soelistyo said he was sure of the discovery after seeing photographs of the underwater wreckage, on which the company logo could be seen.
The "black box" flight data recorders, crucial to determining the cause of the crash, are usually housed in an aircraft's tail.
"We have successfully obtained part of the plane that has been our target. The tail portion has been confirmed found," Soelistyo told reporters in Jakarta.

It doesn't bring those people back, but at least we may find out what happened.
I'm afraid the Malaysia plane will never be found.

Has anyone found a picture of the tail?I would like to see how much of the fuselage was attached or did it separate at the mounting points.

Good question. The black box is not inside the VS, but rather in the rear of the fuselage.

I saw a blog post from Australia that said the pilots on both lost planes were Muslim and thee crashes were the airline equivalent of suicide bombing.
On the Air Asia (second) plane 1/4 of it's passengers were Christians from the same church.

There are a number of competitors. I guess Garuda-Indonesia would be the largest. Other airlines that fly in the area include Singapore Airlines, and Lion Air, Batik, and Wings. The last three operate within Indonesia.
