Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, shocked some conservatives Tuesday when the first vote she cast as a new congresswoman was to keep Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, as House speaker.
Twitter erupted, with several people claiming to be in her district saying they had lost faith in their previous hero, and that she had shown her true self. Remember, this was not a vote on legislation, it was a vote for the speaker of the House.
Love, in an email to the Washington Examiner, provided some insight into why she chose to keep Boehner as GOP leader.
There were no qualified or notable campaigns for speaker within the Republican Party other than John Boehner, Love said. Casting a vote for a candidate who has not actively campaigned and does not have the support to be speaker is an indirect vote for Nancy Pelosi, and I will not vote for Nancy Pelosi.
Love also reminded voters that she is playing the long game when it comes to fighting for conservative principles.
There will be a time and a place for me to stand as a lone voice of dissension, but the vote for the speaker, is not that place, Love said. For me to be an effective congressman over the next two years it is important for me to be on the side of the elected speaker.
But they are confusing..and I quit reading them very fast.
Fact is....I dunno what you are trying to say....
Your posts are busy....Maybe you are saying things I need to read...but I can't in the format you are using....
FWIW---
Talks the talk, but doesn’t walk the walk. She failed the very first test of her principles.
There will be a time and a place for me to stand as a lone voice of dissension, but the vote for the speaker, is not that place,
Well, you know who is supposed to make that decision? The voters, not you. You are there to represent them, and if they want you to make a stand, you do it, even if you think it is unwise.
Otherwise, you should be tossed out just like anyone else who thinks they know better than their constituents.
And it's no wonder Miss Love is taking some heat in her home state!!
Frankly....I hate to see it.
Here's a woman I gave money to....a hefty amount too.
She told us she was Conservative..and we thought she was going to be a firebrand....and she misfired right at the get go.
Disappointing......
No. A Present vote means the vote is not counted. Eventually, enough present votes could create a plurality. In that plurality, Pelosi could step in, create her own mini-majority, and wind up speak of the House again.

So? The problem with that is....?
This is the same line of reasoning that tells us to vote for Jeb or Mitt or some other RINO for president otherwise we will get Hillary.
I get what Mia did. I understand it. She voted for the lesser of two evils.
She also demonstrated she has no convictions or principles.
But what she does not understand, nor do the RINO’s here at FR, is that true change will only come when conservatives stay home or write in third party candidates. I ask you; what difference does it make if a liberal politician has an R after their name or a D?
Honestly - is there ANYONE here that can honestly say Boehner is a better SOH than Pelosi???
Both of them can KMA.
SHe is a 'newbie' , and thus politically niave.
It is one hell of a responsibility to throw at someone their first day on the job.
I can forgive and forget her naïveté on the first day on the job, but let's see what else she does from here on out ...
I’m sure Mia would appreciate what true conservatives think of her vote for Boehner:
202-225-3011 Love’s Washington office.
To me....I could care less how many votes it took....I'd just like to see some newbie "Conservatives" vote the way the people that voted them in...would.
And, so, every time a vote comes up, is she going to vote the way she is told to vote; so as to stay out ot the broom closet in the Capitol basement? Lame!
I’m absolutely disgusted with these republicans. How did they not know 60% to 75% (depending on survey) of republicans polled wanted Speaker Boehner gone from his leadership position?
He should have been ousted because he represents the type of government leadership that Americans are getting so fed up with and voted these people in to come in and challenge them. They, and people like Mia Love, have already failed us. I get so tired of the ruler mentality in Washington and to hell with being our representatives. The culture in DC is so damned corrupt and they don’t even care what the American people want, they’ll do exactly the opposite to spite us.
Now, like a good little corrupt tyrant, Boehner is punishing those that opposed him. We the People, my ass anymore, it a government, for the government, and the people that support big government. We the People have no representation anymore.

I left a lucrative “union” job, when nuclear plant safety didn't matter. Instead of a 40 year pension, I got a 20 year pension.
We can bitch and moan all we want, but what’s done is done and we’re stuck with this POS for another 2 years - unless something happens to him. I’m done with the Republican Party and probably will never vote again. In the famous words of HRC: “what difference does it make?” It makes absolutely NO difference. Besides, my faith isn’t in government anyway - it’s in the Lord Jesus Christ.
AMEN!
HER ARGUMENT IS PATENTLY FALSE!
Newt Gingrich was mentioned as a possibility for Speaker a few years ago. It was only then that I learned that the Constitution does not require the Speaker to be a Member of Congress.
Newt does not possess the moral core needed for Speaker.
Not anymore.
That's extremely suspicious! It's almost word for word what Kevin Yoder KS representative said on his facebook. Somebody told them to say that.
Good thing is all reps in KS are getting SLAMMED on facebook - except Huelskamp - he the golden boy for sticking up for his principles.
“...Casting a vote for a candidate who has not actively campaigned and does not have the support to be speaker is an indirect vote for Nancy Pelosi, and I will not vote for Nancy Pelosi...”
Abject BS. Does anyone believe that she believes this?
I’d bet the house that she got told - like the rest of them - vote for Boehner or never be heard from again. She did the math and she caved.
I guess we’ll see.
Maybe these people have no idea what its like out here, and perhaps vice versa.
The ONLY difference between today and 1929 is that the FedGov moved all the soup lines INDOORS.
93 million on assistance, and an almost equal number not employed and passed their unemployment benefits prime.
The ONLY sector of the economy booming right now is tech. It is propping up CA and WA. Buddy of mine works high up in commercial real estate for a very big hitter and said that LA and San Diego are ghost towns right now. SF, Seattle, and now Portland are hot. Portland is red hot - the other two are white, white hot.
Some space is going for, and I couldn’t believe it when I heard it, $1,000/sf in SF.
He said, flat out, “If you are not completely out of the market soon, you are going to be toast.” He’s making more money now than he ever has, and he’s completely in cash or equivalents. One thing he is DEFINITELY not in is bonds.
He pointed out that once Obola screwed the bondholders when they nationalized GM, there wasn’t much of a difference between owning stock or bonds anymore. With bonds, you used to have a place in line should the company go down. Not true anymore.
He said its going to continue to be white hot, until it is very, very suddenly not.
Deflation is the order of the day.
Compromise.
There are some thing we do not compromise on. Mia made a (bad) judgment call here. I would not be suprised to see her voting along RINO lines in the future.
